Moore did a wonderful job of balancing past and present between Holmes' romantic tale and Harold's mystery. As many Sherlockians still wonder concerning the mystery of Holmes' missing diary, this version of plausible events was entertaining. However, I consider the writing at times bland, though I account that to missing Doyle's distinct voice in concern to Holmes.

A literary mystery that involves murders that aren't quite murders, familiar and familiar-sounding characters, a rather dorky protaganist and a heroine who is not exactly what she seems. While you can tell that this is a debut novel, Moore's writing is really quite good.
