People We Meet On Vacation

"What happens when best friends with nothing in common come together, fall apart, and fall in love? The Vacationers meets When Harry Met Sally..., from the author of Beach Read When Poppy met Alex, there was no spark, no chemistry, and no reason to thinkthey'd ever talk again. Alex is quiet, studious, and destined for a future in academia. Poppy is a wild child who only came to U of Chicago to escape small-town life. But after sharing a ride home for the summer, the two form a surprising friendship. After all, who better to confide in than someone you could never, ever date? Over the years, Alex and Poppy's lives take them in different directions, but every summer the two find their way back to each other for a magical weeklong vacation. Until one trip goes awry, and in the fallout, they lose touch. Now, two years later, Poppy's in a rut. Her dream job, her relationships, her life--none of it is making her happy. In fact, the last time she remembers feeling truly happy was on that final, ill-fated SummerTrip. The answer to all her problems is obvious: She needs one last vacation to win back her best friend. As a hilariously disastrous week unfolds and tensions rise, Poppy and Alex are forced to confront what drove them apart--and decide what they're willing to risk for the chance to be together"--

I wanted to read the book before I watched the movie, but alas. Started this earlier this year and just.. completely forgot about it. Picked it up a couple of weeks ago and finally finished.

This might be at the bottom of my EH list. Anyway, they can never make me hate you, Sarah Torval.

Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven't spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

At this point I dont think there is a Emily Henry book that I won't sell my soul for. The way she mixes the past and present is amazing and contributes in such a beautiful way to the story. This one had a really unique concept that made it unputtdownable. I've been putting of reading it because of the title🤪

I can’t decide between 3 or 4 stars. Overall I enjoyed the book. I enjoyed reading about their vacations, seeing their relationship evolve and the characters. However, the vacation causing their relationship to change was disappointing.

Twee beste vrienden. Tien zomervakanties. Een laatste kans om verliefd te worden.

As someone who’s not really a romance reader… I think I’d still rather watch this than read it 😅 Cute story, but spicy scenes are just not my thing 🙈 Even if the trope isn’t original, I really connected with Poppy—especially that quiet need to leave where you came from and prove you’ve become something more. And this part just hit me: “Suddenly we’re not kids anymore, and it feels like it happened overnight, so fast I didn’t have time to notice, to let go of everything that used to matter so much, to see that the old wounds that once felt like gut-level lacerations have faded to small white scars, mixed in among the stretch marks and sunspots and little divots where time has grazed against my body. I’ve put so much time and distance between myself and that lonely girl, and what does it matter? Here is a piece of my past, right in front of me, miles away from home. You can’t outrun yourself. Not your history, not your fears, not the parts of yourself you’re worried are wrong.”

My very first Emily Henry book, and I’ve enjoyed it! It was such a fun, cute and easy read. Poppy and Alex have a cutesy and great chemistry as best friends and eventually become a couple. I loved their chaotic and fun friendship during those past flashback chapters so much. Emily Henry gave us the idea of how their friendship came to be and how/when they fell in love with each other. Such a nice way to read the story. The friends-to-lovers trope is so special and intimate. The one thing I disliked was the miscommunication, but it was soon resolved near the end of the book, which was great! And I also watched the movie, and I loved it! Romance-Comedy at its finest. One of the best book-to-movie adaptations. Tom Blyth and Emily Bader’s chemistry was brilliant. They are perfect as Alex and Poppy. Oh, to have what they have. Yearning for each other throughout the movie, the pull they both have. They’re like two magnets that can’t help to be attracted to one another, no matter how hard they deny it. Overall, I’ve enjoyed watching the movie and reading the book! It made me smile and laugh all over again.

why was i crying during this book? i kept putting off reading it because i knew it was going to be an angsty read from emily henry, and i was not wrong. it's hilarious, henry just knows exactly how to do banter, but everything else about the book that wasn't banter, was like henry was stabbing my heart over and over again but i didn't want her to stop.

Loved the chemistry between the two main characters, could not stop reading. Such a sweet story

This got a slow star, but then it picked up and got so good that I had to know what happened next.

Poppy is a character I never expected to relate to because we are total opposites, but she really hit the nail on the head when it came to making decisions and choosing what to do when your life.

Alex, y'all, I just love that man, I found him so relatable and also so freaking sweet.

It is true that maybe together, they might not make sense, but I think that is on the surface. After reading them together and how they make each other the best and truest version of each other, you can't help but want them together.

It is not a full 5 stars because I think towards the end it became a bit rushed the whole thing.
