★★★★☆ [4/5 stars] I picked this novel up because one, I'm craving for some political, historical danmei and I can't clearly remember the last time I picked something like this and two, I saw the doting and devoted love interest tag which is my absolute favorite tag ever, plus the fact that his novel has a lot of positive reviews and I was like -- GO!! I never regretted my decision! Most of the plot revolved around political issues and I don't really want to spoil anything. But I can say that plot-wise and character-wise, this novel is without a doubt amazing! You can feel the helplessness and danger of living in this turbulent setting. There are some intense parts that personally made me so anxious, especially in the war part. I also think there are no unnecessary characters. All of them, even the side characters have their own role to play. Also, I've already expected to see the MC's character development because he started out as a laid-back, immature young master. The way his character learned and matured throughout the novel, so good! But the best part for me? Of course the relationship between the MC and the ML. The consistency, sincerity and maturity of their relationship is what really got me. Their relationship dynamic did not disappoint one bit! They are the kind of couple I always want to read/see. I love them so much!! If only the English translation was completed, I would have enjoyed it a lot more. I just MTLed the last few chapters and I think I missed a lot of what's happened or else, this novel would have been a five-star. That aside, I highly highly recommend this novel to everyone. I swear you won't regret giving this a chance because it's really worth it!!
