Guest House for Young Widows

Guest House for Young Widows Among the Women of Isis

Based on years of immersive reporting, Pulitzer finalist Moaveni has written a gripping account of 13 women as they joined, endured, and, in some cases, escaped life in the Islamic State. Among the many books trying to understand the terrifying rise of ISIS, none has given voice to the women in the organization.n.

** spoiler alert ** Likes: - Very important topic! - Storytelling is great and the portraits painted of these people are in-depth and compelling. - Able to identify with what some of these women are experiencing. Makes this story even better as it is not possible to write extremists off as being crazy or evil. - Makes me interested in learning more about the history (past and modern) of the middle east more. Dislikes: - All of this detail could not possibly be gathered from interviews. Some parts of the portraits of these women have to have been fabricated in order to create a good narrative. - Lots of people and topics discussed in this book. Hard to keep track of who is who and what is what at times. Listening to the audiobook did not help with this.
