Doré's Angels
One of the greatest book illustrators of all time, the19th-century artist Gustave Doré was particularly noted for his brilliantly imaginative scenes of fantasy and the fantastic. Among his most frequently portrayed characters were angels. This collection includes dozens of dramatic illustrations depicting Doré's celestial beings, as created for such great works of literature as the Bible, Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Michaud's History of the Crusades, and Milton's classic, Paradise Lost.
