Gyo (2-in-1 Deluxe Edition)
Reviews

I would have liked it more if so much of it hadn't revolved around "it smells bad." It's like when a book goes on and on about how hot it is. I'm bothered by it even though I'm not experiencing it.

Disgusting. Horrifying. Absurd. Disturbing. Nauseating. Junji Ito, sir, you are a genius. Read it in one sitting. Where it lacks story wise, Gyo delivers in imagery. Also loved reading The Enigma of Amigara Fault again.

The last of Junji Ito's post popular works I had to read. The art style crisp and clean (as clean as a junji ito book could get) as usual. In terms of plot I found it unfufilling there wasn't a conscice end and the second volume lacked direction. I'd say this is my least favourite out of the 3 I've read. Uzumaki being my favourite. In terms of characters tadashi was alright as a main he wasn't bad but he wasn't spectacular. The other characters such as kaori land Doctor Koyanagi lacked development. But it was an interesting read none the less.

this was very disturbing and i am so glad it is over. this was absolutely ridiculous and not even scary, just absolutely outlandish.

this was the first thing I ever read of junji ito’s and that too after everyone had hyped him up as the best horror comic artist and honestly I was disappointed. The entire premise, it was new and fresh. The art was great too but the story was just lacking. It didn’t resolve I guess. Idk. I just went in with a lot of expectations and it didn’t live up to them

Another insanist story from Junji Ito that had me laughing out loud at the beginning because of how bizarre it was. The toxic (no pun intended) relationship was a good vehicle for this wild plot.
CW: for suicide/suicide attempt.

4,5owls. This was creepy! Junji's mind is so weird and amazing!

bitch that was crazy... i loved it

I'm starting to realize that I like Ito's short stories more than his longer stuff. Gyo was creepy, but when the story is too long, it has a tendency to lose the horror effect over time and get over explained. But not to fear, this one comes with two bonus stories. "The Sad Tale of the Principal Post" was meh, but "The Enigma of Amigara Fault" is a creepy classic. Weird and unexplainable, it has a deep, dark fears level of dread that one might find "a hole made for me".

His most gruesome yet

The story of Gyo itself was not as enjoyable as Uzumaki. But the bonus story you get at the end of Gyo was great.

[3.5]

I can respect what it is, but horror Manga is not my thing...is this experience going to stop me from trying Uzumaki and Tomie? Probably not...

What a wonderful introduction to spooky season! Junji Ito stories are always.... bizarre, but this one is the strangest I've read yet. Add in the fact that I already have a real life, completely irrational, though maybe not really..., fear of sea creatures. This one genuinely grossed me out. 3.5 stars rounded to 4 cause it had the ability to make me feel physically ill, and we love that 🤣🖤

it's so disgusting, i love it. but i feel like there's room for improvement for the next volumes

another brilliant itou manga. this is his creepiest story that I've read, I think. And I can also definitely add the last bonus story at the end to my all time faves. Junji Itou's works are just always *chef's kiss*
