the unplanned pregnancy trope strikes again

This review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance Gypsy King is the first book in Devney Perry's latest series, and boy was I really impressed with this one. I honestly didn't know how this book would turn out to be honest, I knew she would be able to handle the small-town aspect since that is her true talent but when it comes to authors like this you just never know with motorcycle club themes, because its one of the most difficult to write I imagine. But this story turned out to be so different from what I was really expecting it to be and in the end, I was in love with it. Now I do want to put it out that this is unique and definitely won't be what you are expecting but I was in love with it all the same. Our story sets off with our heroine, who has returned home and is working with her father as a journalist. She had a big life in the city but now she is falling in love with being close to her family and the small town she never imagined she would enjoy living in. But when something happens, Kingston, the leader of what was the "Tin Gypsies" a motorcycle club, is accused of murder, Bryce is determined to get to the truth despite her attraction to Dash, the son of the man being accused of murder. But as they come to an arrangement, the truth starts to become deeper than either of them imagined, and they have a killer on the loose, secrets are being revealed and truth ends up hurting familial bonds.... Gypsy King was a fabulous book here and I really was in love with this story in so many different ways. Now first I want to say that there is a connection between this book and I believe "Clover Chapel" which features this family of Tin Gypsies. So I was delightfully surprised to realize the connection to the two series. I always loved Dash and really was *crossing fingers* in hoping that this author would cover this and she really did and boy was I thrilled beyond happy that it happened. So now we see a deeper relationship into this complex family. We see how its been a few years since Nick and Emmeline have gotten married so we see the brother bond between these two has grown. Now let's talk about the delicious romance that is in this beautiful story ...boy I simply loved this one. And whew these enemies to lovers was EPIC, because the sexy angst was to die for in so many ways and I was delightfully surprised in what I found between this couple. And literally they are on the opposite ends of the spectrum and yeah Dash is a bad boy in some ways but honestly, I think Bryce deserves some of it. They both lash at each other, so I think they are both guilty but boy is it fun to see them become entangled and figure out this complex relationship they have going on. It does start out as a bit of a fling and then turns into something much deeper. There is a strong suspense element that is introduced into this story and boy the mystery and intrigue elements really worked for me and made me realize how much I have missed reading romantic suspense (I hardly read any in 2019---gonna change that this year though) but yes even though there was some not so big shockers, its not super predictable either. I do guarantee that the plot will keep you on the edge of your seat as the murder mystery unfolds for the reader Overall I found Gypsy King to be a remarkable beginning to this new delicious story....a romance packed with new heights and delights, guaranteed shivers and senses while reading this one.

4.5 ★ oh man this book had so many things i love. rivals, enemies with benefits, small town crime, family secrets, kidnapping, etc. bryce, a journalist for a small town newspaper, is determined to uncover the secrets behind the tin gypsy motorcycle club. her main target: kingston slater, aka “dash”. she sets out to uncover everything the MC is hiding, but instead finds a devilishly handsome man who constantly infuriates her. these two hate each other and continue to outsmart each other at every turn. and we all know what that kind of tension can lead to. after a murder in their town, bryce and dash attempt to set their differences aside to uncover the true killer. this book had so many twists and turns i didn’t see coming, it kept me on the edge of my seat trying to solve the mystery. this is an interconnected standalone series, so there were some unanswered questions at the end of this book that i’m sure will continue to be answered throughout the series. i loved meeting all the characters in this first book and i cannot wait to see where this goes!

MC romances aren't something I read a lot of. I've only read a few. Gypsy King isn't your typical MC romance though. It's so much more. This book had everything I was looking for: suspense, amazing characters, romance and twists and turns that I didn't see coming! Going into Gypsy King, I didn't have many expectations, but I can tell you that they are very high while I'll be waiting for the next book. Bryce just moved back to her home town. TV didn't end up being what she wanted, so she's going to take over her father's newspaper. When a murder happens in their small town, Bryce sees a story waiting to happen. She thinks she knows how it's going to play out, but Bryce is about to figure out not everything is as it seems! I enjoyed Bryce's character. She's a strong woman and I loved that she chose to come back and follow her dreams when TV didn't go as planned. It's clear she just wants to tell different stories and in her own way. I'd have to say in the beginning she was just a bit annoying. For a journalist she wasn't always as open minded as I would've expected. And I definitely didn't agree with some of her decisions, but I loved seeing her eyes being opened up to a whole different world she didn't know. Dash isn't a character you want to love, but it happens anyways. He was a part of a MC and they weren't sweethearts. They did a lot of illegal things, but are turning their lives around with their garage. The murder in town comes a little close to home and his life is turned upside down in many ways. Dash seems like an arrogant jerk in the beginning who thinks he should always get what he wants! There's more than meets the eye though. He just wants the ones he loved protected and will do anything to make that happen. Even work with a journalist he can't stand. I ended up loving Dash. Learning about his past made me understand him a lot better and I just wanted him to get his own happily ever after in whatever way would work for him. Bryce and Dash couldn't have been more opposite than they were, but it worked. I loved the banter and them annoying each other. There was definitely a lot of tension and attraction neither of them wanted to admit was there. Once they let go, sparks did fly! I enjoyed their chemistry and the strong team these two made. I think they needed each other more than either of them wanted to admit. Opposites do attract and they're the proof! On top of the romance aspect of this story, I loved the suspense side as well. I wanted to know what happened and enjoyed investigating with them and trying to figure it out. This author was good at giving us some twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. A couple of things did feel a bit too predictable, but the rest of the storyline made up for it! Devney Perry definitely left me wanting more! There are quite a few characters I want to know more about, so I'll be anxiously awaiting the arrival of the second book!

3.5 stars. stupid me thought this was going to be another mc romance, but if i had to describe it i'd say this was 70% a murder mystery and 30% a romance. it isn't an mc romance per se, but the story does revolve around an mc that's been shut down for years and how its past is somehow connected with a murder that occurs in the town. what i REALLY didn't like about this (and which lowered my rating) was that the ending comes and we don't get any answers at all about the murderer. i get that the storyline is probably gonna continue in the second book but some answers would have been appreciated. as to the characters, i can't explain why -because i really liked the hero and heroine and how their relationship developed-, but for some reason i couldn't feel their chemistry. i really liked the author's writing, and this one was entertaining enough for me to continue with the series and even try out devney's other books.

Gypsy King, which is the first book in the Tin Gypsy series, is my first venture into the world of Devney Perry and I can say without a doubt it will not be my last. I have heard nothing but good things about her work and I was curious to see what all the hype was about. Now that I am at the end, I can say she deserves all the praises. She took me on a ride that was passionate, suspenseful, intense, raw, dangerous and gritty. Putting this book down proved to be a difficult task. The story introduces Bryce a reporter and Dash, the ex president of the Tin Gypsy motorcycle club and now the owner of a garage. Bryce left her career as a news anchor in the city, moved to Clifton Forge, and took up a job with the local newspaper, working alongside her father. She is hungry for a story and believes she can find what she is looking for by investigating the members of the now defunct motorcycle club Tin Gypsy. Determined to turn Clifton Forge on its toes, she made Dash Slater the focus of her investigation. However, things took a turn when a woman was found murdered and all the evidence points to Dash’s father. I had a great time watching these two match wits. Bryce is determined to get a story, and Dash will do anything to stop her. Meanwhile, the sparks between them sizzled and was off the charts. Bryce proved to be fearless, witty, sharp, and her tenacity knew no bounds. Dash is no saint, but he is determined to put his past behind him and live his life on the right side of the law. His personality was not one would expect from a biker. There were many layers to him, which made him a rather complex character. I enjoyed the slow burn romance. Dash and Bryce worked well together. I enjoyed seeing this tough commitment phobic biker brought to his knees by love. I found the mystery angle interesting. The uncertainties, the danger and the revelations, which all had the potential to destroy lives. It had me guessing throughout the story as I tried to figure out the who and the why. Now as much as I enjoyed the story, I found the ending disappointing. The romance plot was tied up neatly, and the author treated readers to a nice epilogue highlighting the progress in Dash and Bryce’s relationship. However, regarding the mystery, the story left me with more questions, as I am still not aware of the why and the who. I am not sure why I have to wait to get the answers, but I hope to have confusion cleared up in the next installment. Conclusion/Recommendation A great start to an exciting series and one I would recommend to fans of romance and mystery. My thanks to Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the opportunity to read Gypsy King in exchange for an honest review.

Das Genre gut genutzt, incl. Gewissensberuhigung, keine haltlose Verklärung und noch intertextueller Verweis auf den großen TV-Bruder SOA.
