This is the first book I’ve ever picked up because of its cover, and it is officially the last. When I started the book, I found the introduction a bit odd, but I kept reading. I got into the ACTUAL book, but it wasn’t any better— actually, it had somehow gotten WAY worse. I could see H2O being an enjoyable book for a twelve year old girl (and that’s pushing it a bit). The plot was decent, if a bit basic, but I expected that since it was in the sci-fi genre (nothing against sci-fi, there’s just only so far you can take it). What I could not get over was the poor writing. Like seriously. Unless it was intended for very young readers, there was no reason for that. And the butterflies?? Have I mentioned the butterflies?? Basically, anywhere the main character desired to insert a 

 word, she replaced it with a butterfly emoji—that’s right, A BUTTERFLY EMOJI—so as not to offend her deceased mother by cussing. I mean seriously. Make up your mind. Either include language or don’t. But that’s enough about that. The characters had no personality, which obviously didn’t help things. One character just flat-out disappeared. No closure. No “she died” or “she lived,” just POOF. Hope you didn’t care about the outcome of that particular character’s life. Not to mention that another character practically did the same thing, with a slight 

 of finality and closure (if you’re generous enough to call it that). Honestly, I don’t even know why I finished the book. I guess I had hope that it would get better (I mean, it couldn’t possibly get any worse, right?). WRONG. The ending was absolutely horrible. It was like the author ran out of plot line?? I can’t even begin to describe it. Honestly, this was the most poorly-written book I’ve ever read (and that’s saying something).

.27 is a number Ruby hates. It's a number that marks the percentage of the population that has survived. It's a number that means she's one of the "lucky" few still standing. And it's a number that says her father is probably dead. Against all odds, Ruby has survived the catastrophic onset of the killer rain. Two weeks after the radio started broadcasting the warning, "It's in the rain. It's fatal and there's no cure," the drinkable water is running out. Ruby's left with two options: persevere on her own, or embark on a treacherous journey across the country to find her father-if he's even still alive.

A lot of reviews for this book rate it low (1-2 stars). I can see why. As an adult, I was iffy about this book at first. But once I got into the mindset that this book was written for teenagers (main character is 16 so I would say this book is for the ages of 14 to 18), I did enjoy this book.

Ruby doesn't act like a usual main character thrown in a world-ending situation. She acts like a teenager. She picks up things she likes over practical items simply because she couldn't before. To her, she is able to do what she was never allowed. 

She learns as she goes through. In the beginning, she didn't look at the clouds when she started going out. Ruby didn't even think twice about it because why would she? The rain was normal before. She is selfish at times, but what teen isn't. All she wanted to do is find her dad, even if it meant being selfish.

Ruby is a teenager, and this book is written like it is her journal. This book shows realistically how a teenager may act in this situation. Not every teenager is going to go into survival mode, they will take time to process what is happening and this book shows that.

I.E people who like the Bronze Bow... again this book is LIT so stop reading this review which isn't even close to being as good as the book sooo.... has my point not been spoken to your brain yet?!?!? BUY THE BOOK
