this really made me smile. all my life i’ve had really curly hair that my parents didn’t know how to handle so i’d get braids up until i started middle school and was straightening my hair every month causing so much damage that i thought i’d have to do a big chop. thankfully, i didn’t have too and and i’m almost two years into not relying on straightening my hair. i loved that her dad did her little puffs, twists, and even gave her a little afro <3

Adorable, wonderful, and REAL! It's so nice to read a book aimed specifically at kids of color that doesn't make them feel different or out of the ordinary. I also loved the family dynamic, implying that Mom works and Dad stays at home with Zuri. A real representation of family and self-love.
