Amelia just transferred her senior year to another college, one where a girl has disappeared, and Amelia’s brother was one of the last few to see her alive. Amelia is more than ready to find more information, not only for herself, but also for the journalism gig she just got at college. This college, though, is full of secret societies and one of them is responsible for the disappearance. But things take a different turn when Amelia is summoned to join one of the secret societies. YOU’VE BEEN SUMMONED. I love Claire Contrera’s writing a lot. She always engages me and keeps glued to the story. Half Truths was no different. Right from the start, I’m left in shock and wondering what the heck is going on. The story was super entertaining, and Logan was the highlight of the story for me. At first, he’s rude, but then he’s so sweet and funny. “For all I know, I’m just a footnote in your college experience.” “Oh, Mae. How could you be a footnote when you’re the whole damn textbook?” Seriously, Logan’s character was amazing. I loved seeing him with Amelia and how caring and protective he was of her. He kept saying all these sweet, endearing and romantic comments, which had me melting. He was definitely the perfect person for Amelia. I loved their interactions a lot (when she wasn’t pointing out she wasn’t one of the groupies). They were funny as hell and felt so real to me, which I totally enjoyed. Logan, specifically, kept me very well entertained with his flirty comments. “Normally, I don’t need smooth words to get women naked and in my bed.” “Ah, this is where we’re headed again?” “This is where we’ve always been headed. I just decided to take the scenic route with you.” Like I mentioned, the story is entertaining, and it started out so well, but somewhere along the way, it fell flat. The story had the potential to be something so extraordinary, but the execution went nowhere. Right from the start, we know who’s the one behind everything. Thankfully, the ending was epic and very well done, so I won’t complain that much about it. Then, Amelia has been getting these anonymous text messages and instead of trying to find out more about them, she just ignores them completely. She literally ignores all the obvious clues right in her face. Next, Amelia got on my nerves! I’m not even kidding when I say that most of the time, she would tell Logan she wasn’t one of his “groupies”. ALL. THE. FREAKING. TIME. It got old real fast. Finally, as I mentioned earlier, this story had so much potential, especially the secret society angle. It could have been gone deeper into them, but instead we kept getting mindless conversations on, “I’m not one of your groupies.” Seriously, the secret society angle started to go a bit deep on the halfway mark. This could have been thrilling, suspenseful, enticing, but it wasn’t, and I’m very sad about it. 4/5 Loved It. College Romance - Secret Societies- mysterious read. Had a slow beginning for me and did take some time before I connected with Logan and Amelia. A certain scene is all what it took for me to finally feel their connection and fall in love with them. I was more invested in the suspense plot with her brother, another class mate and the two different secret societies.
