I love Jennifer (Cassie Clare kind of love guys) and if you haven't read it yet, do it. DO IT. A special thanks to Giovanna who stayed with me throughout the wait aka hell. Well I read this and I loved it so obviously I’m going to continue the series. I love new world of pures and half bloods and daimons. Learning new things in this story. Following Alex’s journey to become a sentinel. The writing is amazing and the story amazing. I can’t wait to find out more about these characters and who they become and what happens next. Seriously love the work of Jennifer L. Armentrout and I can’t get enough.

I definitely enjoyed this book. Alex was definitely likable and not a Mary-Sue. I've heard this book is similar to Vampire Academy but I've never read it so I haven't a glue. There was no major twist or turn for me as I felt like there was a lot of foreshadowing. I'm torn between wanting Alex with Aiden or seeing her relationship with Seth develop. I need to get me book two NOW!

I want to start off by saying I love Jennifer L. Armentrout. This book just didn’t do it for me. Her writing feels very immature and I couldn’t get into the story. I usually need more romance and the characters just didn’t have the chemistry that they usually do in her books. I don’t think I will be finishing this series.

I think this is the only book JLA has written that took me more than 2 days.
 I think I started this book at least 10 times, I really wanted to read it because is a JLA book, but after al the fight I put to finish it, I just didn't like it. It wasn't bad, not at all, but I don't know...
It reminded me a lot of Vampire Academy (which I love) there were details that for me were the same, but difference to VA, that got my full attention, making me finish VA and Bloodlines in a week and a half (nuts, right?) this book took me almost 2 YEARS, 2 YEARS THAT CRAZY!!!!

Through the whole book I kept thinking vampire academy. This is not something I like doing (comparing books), but it reminded way, way to much of vampire academy not to mention it. If you know me then you know how much I adore...no LOVE the VA books. So with that being said I really can't say I hated or disliked Half-blood at all. Actually I'm curious to see how it all plays out in the second book Pure. Anyone have a ARC they wanna let me borrow? 

I'll try to get a full review up maybe tomorrow. I still have to do one for Wither.

I loved this book. Mythologie, gods, demi-gods, intrigues, drama, everything I needed this week.
And Alex is amazing, her go-to reaction is hitting everything or everyone.

Absolutely loved this book!!!! Aiden is just one of those book boyfriends who just makes you swoon anytime you hear his name. Alex to me was an amazing heroine. With all the stuff she is put through, she was a lot stronger than most people would have been. I know a lot of people compare this book to Vampire Academy but, I haven't read that series so I don't know if it has any similarities. I do know that this was an amazing start to what I believe is going to be a great series!!!!!

The plot is great but sometimes predictable. I really like the characters and the chemistry between them. I enjoyed the whole greek mythology concept and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I have had this for Review since way back last year. I know terrible! I decided it was time to read it and after so many of my friends telling me it is amazing I had to read it. However, even though I did find it a good book and hard to put down. I was disappointed with it. 

Half-Blood had the potential to be amazing. The premise sounded unique and exciting. With the Greek Mythology kickass characters and forbidden love it should have been epic. However, it wasn't as unique as I thought it would be. I have read this story before in the form of Vampire Academy. The similarities between this and VA was just too much. I felt like it was VA but with characters names being changed and vampires took out and pures and half-bloods put in. There is even certain scenes that felt like it was took right out the VA series. And that is the reason why this was a major let down. Personally I don't mind with books a few similarities but this was just too many. 

However, and this is a big however, I did overall still find this to be a good book. There was just something about the book that kept me reading. It took me a while to get into but once I did, I honestly couldn't put it down. I was hooked on it. And I think it was the chemistry between Alex and Aiden. It's not that instalove that's in most books. It slowly develops over the course the book. Even though Alex has always had a crush on Aiden. But the tension between them builds to the point it boils over and they can't fight it. And of course the fact It's forbidden made it all the more exciting to read. 

I am looking forward to reading book 2 and I only hope its better than this in terms of moving away for the VA story because Jennifer is a talented writer and a lot of potential. So do I recommend this? Yes, I still do. I think a lot of people would enjoy this. And Jennifer has a massive fan base who all adore her books. Just be wary with the VA similarities.

THOUGHTS:

So I had read this when it first came out, way back in 2011 and remembered nothing of it. In fact, I had forgotten all about the series itself. Until I saw the new covers. I decided to have a re-read and leave my review. 

 

GOOD:

So the one thing I liked about this is that it's long, but a quick read. I never read a dull moment. From conversations, to fighting, and mystery, it was fast and always moving. It worked perfectly with the plot and I love books like this. 

“So? What are you going to do about it? Throw your mashed potatoes at me? I'm consumed by terror.” 

Alexandria is awesome. She's kick ass, always has a witty one liner, and is fierce against any force. I felt so connected to her, because in a way, I relate to her so much. She's literally me in the way she talks and handles situations! She's returned to school to learn how to fight so she can one day rid the world of daimons. Her dream is to be a Senetal, the highest form of a warrior in their world. But she's gotta take more classes since having been pulled from the school and she's not sure if it'll happen.

Especially with Aiden, one of the high up fighters. 

“Okay. I’m ready to move onto something else, like practicing with knives or defense against the dark arts. Cool things.”
“Did you just quote Harry Potter?” 

I love their interactions. From the moment they're together, we know they belong with each other. They fight through words-and weapons-and deeply care for each other. I was rooting for them since the beginning, but knew they'd have a tough go. Because Pure's (children of Hematoi, gods) can't be with Half-Bloods (Hematoi who got it on with a human). This was an interesting development in the story. It's not hard for them because he's her teacher in a sense, but add in a law of them being unfit for each other, and it becomes tough. 

The side characters are all note worthy, but one specifically is Seth. He's what they call a Apollyon. He's got like super powers and is basically the Brittany Spears of their world, a la 2000's. But, Seth and Alex are more intertwined then they could have seen and everything just got more tough.

I love the fighting scenes, and the daimons. It's so neat to have so much action and love and craziness in one book. 

 

BAD:

There isn't much bad that I found in this book. But I did notice something right off the bat, and maybe this isn't considered "bad" but I'll put it here anyway:

NOTA : N'ayant jamais lu Vampire Academy, mon évaluation n'a rien à voir avec les accusations de plagiat que l'on peut retrouver dans la plupart des commentaires et se base uniquement sur mon expérience de lecture de ce récit.

L'intrigue commence de manière très dynamique et nous plonge immédiatement dans l'univers mythologique intriguant créé par l'auteure. Nous suivons Alex, une sang-mélée (comprenez par là qu'elle est la fille d'un humain et -accrochez-vous- d'un descendant d'un descendant de dieu grec) qui tente d'échapper à des daimons (des monstres buveurs de sang divin) et de rejoindre le covenant où les êtres de son acabit sont réunis pour leur protection. Evidement les choses ne se passent pas comme prévu et une fois au covenant l'accueil est plutôt froid.
Le rythme qui m'avait plu au début s'est vite décousu et la suite des évènements - à savoir les 3/4 de l'histoire - sont devenus beaucoup trop prévisibles, au point d'hésiter à abandonner cette lecture.

Le personnage principal, Alex, est le stéréotype de l'adolescente immature et pseudo-rebelle. Son caractère n'est absolument pas fondé et son comportement agaçant au possible. Néanmoins, son entourage semble tout à fait captivé par la demoiselle ce qui présente un gros manque de crédibilité à mes yeux. Ajoutez à cela une histoire d'amour sans fondement, arrivant comme un cheveux sur la soupe et pourtant que l'on voit venir de très très loin tellement elle est cliché.

L'intrigue se base autour d'un mystère quant au départ de la mère d'Alex mais l'auteure éparpille des indices sans grande délicatesse dès le début de l'histoire, on en devine donc le dénouement très tôt et l'ennuie s'installe en attendant qu'Alex en fasse de même.

Seules les 100 dernières pages sont véritablement intéressantes car on plonge finalement dans l'action. Je dois avouer qu'il y a bien un ou deux aspects de l'histoire que je n'avais pas anticipé et ont fait remonter Jennifer L. Armentrout dans mon estime mais mon expérience fut globalement mitigée. 
Ce premier tome de la série a au moins l'originalité d'un univers inédit, un Percy Jackson un peu plus sombre, dans une société dystopique, mais j'ose espérer que l'action va s'intensifier dans les tomes suivants. Ayant été conquise par la saga Lux de l'autrice je m'attendais à beaucoup mieux et reste malheureusement sur une note de déception.

I finished Half-Blood about fifteen minutes ago and my heart is still beating like mad. This book, wow this book, is a roller coaster ride in it's own right. Twists, turns, smoldering attraction, it's all there in vivid black and white! When the very beginning of a story automatically takes my breath away, I know I'm in for a treat. Expect rambling beyond this sentence.

First off let me profess my love for Alex, the main character. She is strong, she is fiery, she knows what she wants and she'll be damned if she's going to let you keep her from getting it. Not afraid to break the rules, Alex is a rebel and driven by her need for revenge. Despite everything else in her life, including what she could become, she keeps fighting forward towards her ultimate goal. However she's not all big and bad. There are parts of her that come through that are sensitive and struggling. It is this very real personality that brought her to life and made me one hundred percent behind her the entire time.

Then there's Aiden. I'll admit that he stole my heart. This boy is stubborn and strong, but also sensitive in the best way possible. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes as well. There are moments between Aiden and Alex that just ooze tension, and then others that are so sweet that they will melt your heart. Add in an expressly forbidden romance, and you have a recipe for a fantastic story. What I really really enjoyed about Half-Blood though is that the romance doesn't steal the story line. It's there, it's charged, and there is even another smoldering hot boy who comes into the picture. Still, not once does a heart-wrenching love triangle fully develop. At least not yet. Perhaps it will come in the next installment, but for now I'm very happy with the fact that Alex gets to be her butt-kicking self, without falling into the love triangle trap.

As I mentioned above, the plot itself drives forward like a performance car! (Terrible similie I know.) I'm completely serious though. Interspersed between calm, loving, moments of reflection and growth are intense fight scenes and twists that will make your head spin. There was more than one time while reading that I literally yelled out "What are you DOING?" to the dismay of my napping boyfriend. Half-Blood is a book that drew me so far in, made me feel so much for the characters, that I felt I would be doing them a disservice if I didn't read ravenously to the end.

I'll stop rambling now. This book is fantastic. If you are in the market for a story with a butt-kicking heroine and a strong (gorgeous) male character, this is for you. Half-Blood took my breath away. I wait eagerly for more of Alex's story!

Once more, Jennifer L. Armentrout almost ended me. 
Alex is one of the most reckless and brave characters that I have the pleasure of knowing. 
I can't begin to understand all her pain and how she could still smile after everything that happens in this book (AND IT'S THE FIRST ONE). 
Jennifer has a way of writing that make me feels the facts deep inside my bones, and I'm pretty addicted to it. So I'm definitely going to end this series.
