           I hate this book. Here is a quick review of the book.

Halo is a not-very-inspiring story about three angels sent to a posh coastal town called Venus Cove for some bizarre reason. They live lives of luxury and self-righteousness, doing very little proper service other than volunteering. A melodramatic and meandering plot follows Bethany and her melodramatic romance with Xavier. Some genuine conflict eventually shows up, several hundred pages too late to make the book any good, but that’s okay; as the author emphasizes several times, this book wasn’t written for artistic merit! Basically, it’s just a way to take your money and preach to you.

A lack of personality was apparent in the heroine. As opposed to doing well, she put her feelings about Xavier first. I found Xavier’s perfection sickening. He’s good-looking, but what else makes you want him? No more talking about his hair and eyes.

I hated the climax. When these characters realize there is a demon in town, they do nothing. In the meantime, they “wait for higher authorities to intervene.”

It would be easy for me to go on, but I don’t want to.

This is a decent book but it reminded me a lot of Twilight. Xavier and Beth were way too dependent on each other - it was basically like they ignored the rest of the world and stayed in a little bubble. And there wasn't a lot of conflict...foreshadowing was very obvious, and I predicted the end of the book quite easily. Any problems the characters faced were resolved within a chapter or two. However, the story was pretty engaging and I liked the characters. I didn't like the way the book characterized teenage girls - like all they care about it getting a boyfriend and going to prom, or something dumb like that. This is literally a kind of better version of Twilight.

           I like the plot of the novel, especially that it was a girl angel and not the other way around. It got a little sickneningly sweet at times between Xavier and Beth, but it was kind of cute. I found myself wondering if an angel would really give up not going back to Heaven just to be with a boy, but hey, who am I to judge? :P

I feel I must begin with how impressed I am that Alexandra was only 17 when she wrote this book. The writing in this book is so beautiful, so lyrical, that it literally sparkles off the page. Creative writing classes would do well to take notes ib how Alexandra writes, because her words not only speak to the reader, but seep into their mind. I found myself with a vivid picture of what I was reading in my head. I am not exaggerating when I say that I was blow away from the first line that I read. Impressed might not even be a strong enough word!

However, my love affair with the writing in this book simply wasn't enough to keep me invested. I did enjoy the characters, but I never felt that I got to know them well enough to really fall in love with them. Bethany especially I had a hard time with, not because of her naivety but because of her inability to cope. It was difficult for me to bond with her because she was so lovesick the majority of the story, and her relationship with Xavier did not feel real to me. I know I've said it before, but if romance is to be a centerpiece in a book I really feel it needs to be done carefully. Xavier and Bethany somehow just fell head over heels in love, with little or no growth or explanation.

The other thing that made this a difficult read for me was the pacing. Although the writing was beautiful, there were portions of the book that simply dragged. I almost felt as though 450+ pages was a little excessive for the story being told, because there were pages of nothing but descriptions of people and places. Also I was a little disappointed with the climactic action in this book. When the action finally came to a head, it was over so quickly and so unsatisfactorily, that I felt let down. With Angels as the main characters I was not expecting much bloodshed or anything of that nature, but I did hope for a little more of an epic climax.

Overall I did enjoy the story line in the book, but I will admit that I did a lot of page skimming for details near the middle. As I said before, the writing is absolutely stunning, but in my eyes it simply did not mask the slow development of the plot. If you are interested in Angels as main characters, and love lyrical writing, I would definitely give this book a chance. There is a lot to love, and you may find yourself much more drawn in than I was.

Começou a escrever aos treze anos e aos quinze publicou o seu primeiro livro. Filha de professores de Inglês, criada numa casa cujo nome é Byron, Alexandra é uma jovem australiana que se mudou para os Estados Unidos da América para estudar. Quer ser escritora e actriz, é fã de música country, adora teologia e cantar.
Aos dezoito anos publicou aquele que é o seu trabalho mais conhecido, o primeiro livro de uma trilogia angélica, Halo. Para além desta trilogia, também escreveu a trilogia The Strangest Adventures. Publicado em 2010, Halo está traduzido para dezoito línguas e faz parte dos livros que seguiram a onda pós- Crepúsculo.
Três anjos descem à Terra com uma missão e para a cumprirem devem imiscuir-se entre os mortais mas quando um deles começa a sentir uma curiosidade avassaladora pelas sensações humanas, quando um deles descobre o sentimento que caracteriza a Humanidade, tudo é colocado em risco e as Trevas que ameaçam o mundo perdem importância perante a perspectiva de regresso e de perda do amor. 
Alexandra apresenta-nos uma história que, na verdade, pouca história tem. Ao longo de quase quatrocentas páginas seria de esperar que algo acontecesse só que Halo é uma história feita de nadas e clichés, uma narrativa que não passa do básico. Com uma escrita até bem elaborada e que no início até mostra alguma construção e pensamento mental, a autora acaba por se perder a dada altura e tornar este livro não mais que uma história aborrecida que não passa de um relato de uma relação chata entre duas pessoas irritantes e todos aqueles clichés de adolescentes americanos como o histerismo em volta do baile de finalistas. Pouco mais há, aliás a dizer sobre este livro, tirando que foi uma total perda de tempo lê-lo.
Quando a história é introduzida há a sensação que a coisa até foi bem pensada pois os anjo não percebem muito da rotina humana, sentem-se estranhos nos seus corpos e precisam de se habituar a coisas que para nós são tão normais que nem damos por elas mas não deixa de haver na leitura o seu quê de chata, de expectativa por mais mas o mais não aparece em altura nenhuma. Supostamente estes anjos são enviados numa missão, uma missão que nunca sabemos qual é, que nunca nos é explicada e pela qual eles não fazem nada de nada visto que dois passam a vida numa escola a fingir que são humanos e a outra fica em casa a fazer acções comunitárias. Depois nenhuma desgraça acontece por parte dos supostos agentes das trevas até que quase no fim a autora lá se lembrou do caos e do vilão e do drama, horror e tragédia mas a coisa de facto não correu bem porque parece que o problema do agente das trevas era gostar da anjinha chatinha que lhe deu para trás e acaba tudo por se tornar muito ridículo. No fundo este livro é sobre uma relação melosa, opressiva e irritante que ocupa toda a santa página deste livro. Ah e sobre a estupidez de alguns adolescentes que não pensam em mais nada senão em superficialidades, álcool e festas.
Quanto aos anjos, nunca vi nada mais inútil. Eles não servem para nada, não têm qualquer tipo de interesse, são aborrecidos até a morte. Ivy é um adereço só e apenas porque curandeira ela não é de certeza, Gabriel é o chato armado em pai chato e Bethany é a coisa mais insonsa depois daquela Bella. Tirando as asas, eles seriam apenas três seres humanos sem qualquer tipo de graça. Depois o mundo angélico resume-se a um grupo assustador que nada faz não se percebe bem porquê e a um demónio que mais parece um puto com problemas psicológicos. 
E depois temos a relação amorosa que é na verdade a única coisa que existe neste livro, uma relação que une as duas personagens mais chatas, insonsas e boazinhas que eu já vi e que só me deu vontade de vomitar e ranger os dentes. Xavier e Bethany são o cúmulo do aborrecimento, da estupidez e da seca total. Ele é obsessivo, controlador com ar de bonzinho e meloso que até enjoa, ela é chata, estúpida, burra e tão choramingas que só dava vontade de lhe dar dois estalos, para além que só se dá com as parvinhas e não faz nada para as mudar, pelo contrário, torna-se uma delas por completo. Adeus anjo responsável com uma missão, olá pita estúpida!
O resto das personagens é igualmente chata e inútil, irritante e odiosa e em nada contribuíram para o nada que isto foi. Acho que a única coisa útil foi a autora ter utilizado o Facebook para estragar a relação dos Irritantes. Esperem, de facto isso só deu mesmo vontade de revirar os olhos.
Ou seja, isto é um desperdício de tempo e dinheiro, esqueçam lá isso.
