TikTok’s latest viral sensation, this swoonworthy romance will be loved by fans of Mariana Zapata, Elle Kennedy and Elena Armas. Anastasia Allen has worked her entire life for a shot at Team USA. She has a drive that few can match and, as she enters her third year on the Maple Hills ice skating team, everything is going according to plan. Nothing will stand in her way, not even the captain of the ice hockey team, Nate Hawkins. Nate’s focus as team captain is on keeping his team on the ice. Which is tricky when a facilities mishap means they are forced to share a rink with the ice skating team – including Anastasia, who clearly can’t stand him. But when her skating partner gets injured, Nate looks like her best option to advance in competition. Sparks fly, but Anastasia isn’t worried. After all, she doesn’t have time for a relationship … right?

i read this as a joke because i’ve made fun of it for so long, but it’s honestly not too bad. the plot was fun and the romance was sweet! SOOO glad the final conflict wasn’t over a silly miscommunication.

Icebreaker by Hannah Grace was by far one of the most amazing books I have ever read. This book is 100% on my favorites list.

Starting off with the positives, this book is a very enjoyable read. You can turn your brain off and just let the words do their thing without really having to question things and deduct them yourself. It was exactly the type of book I was looking for, for a quick read between fantasies and larger series. Overall the characters were very lovable and interesting, you could definitely understand them well! The writing itself was very clear and engaging as well. 

From here on out will be spoilers and quotes!

The first introduction to our MMC starts very badly for the intention of making him likable failed instantly in my personal opinion.  He calls his one night stand a “subspecies of women” which is to be honest disgusting behavior. Men who are only deem women they are attracted to (incl. personality wise) worthy of basic courtesy and dignity are still misogynistic! Later on in the book the author tries to redeem this by having the FMC also talk badly about this character. To me this just doesn’t work since it’s never really explained what specifically set them all off but that the only reason they don’t like this character is her having a bit of a harsh personality. 

But I give it to the MMC that he overall redeems himself as this is really the only instance where he acts like this, which kind of confuses me as to why then it was even written in in the first place. 

The he also has a bigger crush on another female character in the beginning which he immediately forgets about the second he meets the FMC, like instantly. It is also kind of never seriously brought up again besides for a short revenge plot and later on for a little awkward moment when he is finally in a relationship with the FMC. It just reads as very much just for the plot. 

At this point I also have to say that I noticed that I just really don’t like insta love, which this very much was for the MMC. 

Now there is also just a lot of issues that I personally had with the construction of this book because a lot of emotional content happened behind closed doors. 

When they really talk their feelings out for the very first time after he spends a night just caring for her, we get “In that moment, it was easy for us to talk about everything that’s happened.” (Chapter 23)

And that’s all there is to the actual talk. The reader only gets to see what they talk about from there on out and this is a pattern that is repeated throughout all the story. When she talks with the teammate who is really introverted, that she bonded with from the beginning on (the first one from the team that she even liked) though, we get told what he studies and that he has to lesbian moms. This happens at like 60% through the book and is seemingly not new information to our FMC, so why didn’t we know?

Then we also never really addressed in depth why the FMC has such strong commitment issues, when she didn’t in earlier stages of her life. Was it because she was given up for adoption, was it because her first and only boyfriend ultimately held her back without meaning too? Correct me if I am wrong but that question was never or at least not clearly answered, only joked about. The main character as well, he has this huge trauma response in regards to his mother but the only thing the reader really gets to know is the she is kind and his father thought she was fierce when he first met her. We have exactly one scene about her and even that isn’t really fleshed out. I would have loved if in Nathans (MMC) POV we could have just once gotten to see her through his eyes and why he adored her so. 

Emotional moments in general are dropped way to early, as when Anastasia (FMC) and Henry (introvert) have a heart to heart where they come to terms with them seeing each other as siblings after she almost died, but it’s cut so incredibly short it might as well have not been there at all. 

All of this is of course in relation to the book still being enjoyable!

One of my biggest issue though is how little sport there is in a SPORTS ROMANCE! We are witness to exactly one Hockey game and one Ice skating tournament routine. Again remind me if I’m wrong but we don’t even know what position besides team captain Nathan plays? Most of the book is divided in three sections; Trainings, Parties and homely and sex time. But even in the training parts we never really GET to see them train only them looking onto the others training or being in their own thoughts about the other one. Not one word of a technique, a game plan or a training regiment. But what was mentioned even less was the actual COLLEGE part, because for too people in the last years of their studies they did not open a book ONCE. 

A lot of things were also just incredibly tropey, which is not the worst thing ever but it still irks me. The relationship Nate has to the Coach is very stereotypical Coach/Player but at one point it just makes no sense. “My life is going to be so much easier when you graduate in two months” the coach texts him, which is absolutely ridiculous since the whole book up to this point stressed the fact that he is actually the first Captain to put a hold on a pranking tradition and is constantly keeping the whole team from doing something stupid. 

Now the WORST offense besides Nate learning how to passably learning how to figure skate in just 6 weeks is definitely the thrown in PREGNANCY TROPE in the epilogue. After saying that she didn’t want to birth a child and would actually like to adopt (which you know would have been a full circle moment from her adoption) we get thrown into an epilogue where she is accidentally pregnant. This is also just one year after she graduated and while yes she won olympic gold just before she found out, these are supposed to be her golden years as an athlete, so this pregnancy marks them as officially over. Throughout the book we see examples of a pregnancy ending careers for figure skaters, e.g. her coach tells her, her bladder is never gonna be quite as strong and her body neither. I don’t necessarily dislike a pregnancy in a future epilogue but it just made no sense as to why this one was so early on in their careers. 

Last but not least just take in this quote 

(Talking about Nate in Sweatpants) “Gray, obviously because Nathan Hawkins is a man who was most definitely written by a woman.”

Este libro ya yo lo había leído hace pal de tiempo pero lo volví a leer para completar la trilogía. No me acordaba de muchas cosas pero prácticamente mis comentarios siguen siendo los mismos. Al principio es un libro muy bonito y amas a los personajes (excepto a Aaron), pero luego siento que la historia se alarga mucho y es difícil de terminarlo. Literal los primeros capitulos me los leí en menos nada pero ya del 35 en adelante me tardaba bastante en terminarlos. La relación de Nate y Anastasia es muy linda y me encanta el "found family trope", pero como siempre Henry fue, es y seguirá siendo mi personaje favorito.

I loved the concept of this book and the events that unfolded, but I feel that it is a very slow-paced book, which is the main thing that brings down my rating of this book. Other than that, this book was set up for me to like. I may continue with the series, but this book makes me wonder if Hannah Grace is going to be an author that is for me.

i started this book with a lot of uncertainty. i had heard very polarized opinions: either you absolutely love it, giving it 4 or 5 stars, or you hate it to the point of DNFing. however, it pleasantly surprised me and exceeded my initial expectations.

› the main characters: i adored the protagonists. the male lead is absolutely lovable, and the female lead was also very likable. their dynamic was one of the strongest aspects of the book.

› the secondary characters: the hockey team friends were a breath of fresh air. they were all super charming and added a lot to the story. henry, in particular, is such a sweetheart.

› the tension buildup: the slowburn was very well done. the initial romantic tension and the first smut scenes were fantastic. the chemistry between the protagonists was palpable and kept me hooked.

› the plot twist: towards the end of the book, there’s a twist involving the pairs' competition that completely caught me off guard. it was such a strong moment that elevated my opinion of the book.

› the happy ending: i love happy endings, and this one didn’t disappoint. marriage, a baby… a true fairy tale ending, which was very satisfying.

› lola’s lack of presence: despite being anastasia’s best friend and roommate, lola’s presence felt minimal. i missed seeing more of that female friendship and her role as a support system for stassie.

› aaron as the antagonist: although aaron is a key character in the story, his development felt incomplete. his motivations and reasons for treating anastasia the way he did weren’t explored deeply enough. in the end, he’s simply transferred to another university, and there’s no real resolution or growth for his character.

› too many explicit scenes: while some smut scenes were well-executed, there were just too many. this took away from the main plot at times. some readers may love this aspect, but for me, many of the scenes felt unnecessary.

› the book’s length: it’s quite long for a sports romance, and some parts could have been shortened or removed entirely, as they felt irrelevant to the story.

IN SUMMARY — this is a book i really enjoyed, with charming characters, a great dose of romantic tension, and some thrilling moments. however, it has its ups and downs: certain storylines felt underexplored, and its length, combined with the abundance of explicit scenes, might be a drawback for some readers.

that said, the story hooked me enough to enjoy it, and the ending was a rewarding conclusion.

There is soooo much hype around this book so my expectations were HIGH. It is a good book really, I liked the plot line, the main couple was one you cheer on, and there was an unexpected element. I will however say I think it’s overrated. The smut was not even to the extreme that people act like it is. And it was a huge pet peeve every time Stassie called Nate “bub”……

I LOVED this book. It was so refreshing to see Anastasia and Nate talk about their problems in a healthy way. I was genuinely excited to read this every time I picked it up and couldn't get enough. The banter was top-notch, and I loved the relationship dynamic between them and all of their friends. It did start to seem a little repetitive at the end, and I wish we had gotten to see more of Anastasia at the Olympics or her and Nate navigating long distance. But I enjoyed it so much and Nate is now my favorite book boyfriend. All of the characters were amazing, and I can't wait to read the next book.

Whyyyy was this book so LONG? 200 pages could have been cut out, easily. It was also very repetitive. Overall it was fun and sweet… but an editor was badly needed here.

The smut was very well done and I liked the enemies to lovers trope! However, seemed that the author didn’t have a good grasp about figure skating and hockey. I know that’s not the point of the book, to get all of the facts right about Nate and Stassie’s sport, but you would think more research would be done before writing about both sports. After consulting my boyfriend, he said that Nate could not be playing college level hockey while also being signed to a professional hockey team. So ha.

           I had a hard time absorbing the writing style, I don't know how many times I stopped. TMI about the side characters to the point I'm getting more interested in them than the mains. (I love JJ and Henry) Aaron's issues aren't discussed well. Why he did all those what he did, why he is the way he is, (maybe because his family issues) there was just said that his parents manipulate each other all the time and he is grown up being shown that how he gets what he wants but it's just that, no showing at all. It took half of the book to be on what's the sypnosis said about the story. I think it's unnecessary long.
