" Ihave to go and warn them," said Inara. "But Skedi, it's time for you to be free. Go to him, or to your own shrines. You don't need me any more."

Skedi shook his head. 'I choose you," he told her. "I chose you in Blenraden, in Lesscia, in Wsirin. And I will choose you again. Over and over." 

Inara felt tears rising in her eyes. He gave her love. Without expectation, without limits. He loved her. 

"I wont be bound to him," she whispered. "I dont want his mark on me. I want to be my mother's daughter, not my father's mistake."

"My girl," said Skedi, and tipped his antlers forward, resting them against her brow. "I would fight the world for you."

"Kissen doesn't kill people," Skedi called to her.

Inara stopped, her captured blade just at the Mitha's belly. 

She had fired an arrow from a distance and killed a person. She had reached a hand out to a god and wrestled with it in the hope it would kill the man who bore it, but she had never felt her blade pierce flesh, muscle, bone. 

Inara's blade was pressed against Imani's belly. but she drove it no further.

Yatho roared. "Get your fucking hands OFF MY WIFE!" she roared, stepping towards him, her colours a trail of blazing glory so bright it seemed like the afterglow of lightning. She swung with all the considerable force of her shoulder and upper body, crunching the head of the hammer into the side of the man's face, then with her other shattering his knee with a sickening crunch.

"You saved my daughter," the lady said at last. "In so many ways. I am," she twisted her nose, "... grateful for it." 

Gratitude? From Lady Craier? She really had warmed to her. 'I dont know," Kissen said, smiling crookedly. "She's a feisty litle thing. She'd have thought of something." 

Lessa laughed, and lifted her hand to touch her ears, as if unused to the weight of the gold earrings that now adorned them. "I should have been there for her more," she said. 'I'm glad you were. Are." 

Kissen bit her tongue to stop saying something stupid. Like declare undying loyalty or swear fealty to the beautiful lady and her terrifying daughter. That was what fools did in stories. Kissen was no fool. Their paths would not stay together forever, one day the two of them would go where Kissen did not, could not belong.

Occasionally, he fanned her with his wings, which seemed to ease her breathing. He was starting to think that he quite liked her alive.

You damned fool of a man, snarled Eligast, following Arren through the gates of his shattered Reach.

Goddamn, she nailed the ending of this trilogy. I loved this series, so 

 many great characters. If it sounds remotely interesting to you, you’ve gotta give it a try.

Goddamn, she nailed the ending of this trilogy. I loved this series, so so many great characters. If it sounds remotely interesting to you, you’ve gotta give it a try.

I was already on the fence about this series, but I was hoping the last book would hold my attention better since it was the final installment. My issues with from last two still stand with this book, but this one also moves way too slow in my opinion for a final book. I was hoping for a faster paced story, and it just didn’t reach my expectations.

I don’t want to say goodbye. This series is a feat of humanity. The entire range of bodies and emotions, desires and motives, joys and sorrows, live in this book. It was a pleasure to watch them bake bread and shed blood. I will always come back to my brigs, my baker-knight, my halfling, and my beloved Skedi.

Kissen, Inara and Elo are hurtling into the epic finale of the Fallen Gods series!

Thankfully our rebellion loving trio are finally aware that they are all alive and have found other allies.  There is some tension around Elo and his relationship/status with Arren. Everyone still isn't on the same page of this looming war but they at least are in the same chapter now!

Kissen, Inara and Skedi are going on a whistlestop tour of Middren and abroad, negotiating for allies and Elo is left to be a General in Arren's army and the scepticism and scuttlebutt is flying where he is concerned.

Some of my favourite scenes are "pirate" based and It was emotional seeing Inara and her mother finally connect, whether over the loss of someone important to both of them, or over their joint wish for peace.  There is even a tiny, small sliver of an attraction between Kissen and a certain Lady!

This is definitely a voyage of discovery for all kinds of "love" - parental, platonic and romantic and love for country/people. Whilst I am in no way religious, I enjoy reading about the similarities between faith's , their common roots, etc.  Skedi and his "little god" status was beautifully presented and his growth and self-determination and self-sacrifice was handled really well.

There was a tear or two shed over the ending and a huge lump in my throat but overall I was really happy with the way the story wrapped everything up neatly.
