Raunchy, fun, and will make you wonder the next time you stay at a hotel, "What's really going on here?" Tomsky is quick and witty, there was never a dull moment in this memoir.

Heads in Beds is entertaining, and understandably the author ends in a pretty bitter place. The downside to this is the reader is left feeling that bitterness. Which may be the point. Having worked in service jobs - could definitely see things going this way. Though I had hoped for the happy ending that doesn't always come in real life.

I felt uneasy. Like the author was trying to bully me into letting the bellhop carry my bag and then not only tip him more than I usually do, but march right back downstairs and tip the bleary-eyed guy at the front desk. And tip the door man. Tip the housekeeper. Tip the concierge. No matter that you are paying $250 for a pretty standard room that the author has just gotten finished telling us only carries about $15 of expenses. Why oh why are you turning on us, the ones who just want to travel and perhaps have our own bed while we visit our Aunt Becky? Why don't you tell Mr. Hilton and Mr. Nassetta to just pay their people well. He's headed in the right direction by joining a union. But then he comes mighty close to punching the union right in its sleepy eye. I try to avoid the hotel world by using VRBO or AirBnb. But when I do put my head in their beds, I bring my own pillow and roll my own bag, and no one is going to scare me into doing otherwise.

As someone who also spent many of her post-College graduate years working in customer service, I found Tomsky's memoir very relate-able and hilarious. Tomsky also narrated the audiobook, and it was great to hear these stories and tips in his own voice. I will definitely be thinking about this book every time I check into a hotel from here on out. Still don't know if I have the nerve to hit up the mini bar and dispute the charges....

On a side note, Tomsky has a great NYC accent and talks very fast. I however did find out it was made even faster because I had accidentally sped up the narration using the Overdrive for Libraries audiobook app. Ha. Still totally worked.

I love Thomsky's voice. I felt like I was his confidant at the bar, and I appreciated both his profanity and humanity. He has a good heart and opened my eyes to the behind-the-scenes lives of people in the service industry. he made me want to be a better person.
