Cal only ever wanted to solve his sister's murder. It's been a long road to get here but he may now get the answers he's longed for!

I really enjoy this series. Cal is the most affable, non spotlight seeking character. He's accidentally got a bit of a reputation now for solving cold cases. So much so even the local police give him assistance now and then. The background romantic relationship between Shona and himself is beautifully portrayed and there is never drama between them, drama only comes from outside. The relationship he has with his daughter is so strong and they are friends as well as father/daughter.

Bella had one of the most visceral reactions I've seen depicted in a crime novel. I was in that tunnel of fear with her, holding my breath, wondering how she'll cope. After learning about her family tragedy, her seeking assistance from Cal was a big step for her. 

I really love learning more about crime podcasts and all the stuff that goes on behind the scenes including the research and production side of it.  This case was a particularly harrowing one and one with links to Cal's own tragedy, making it even harder for him not to seek justice. I was so worried for Cal's mental health and just how far he'd go to get the ending he wanted.

I was really happy with the conclusion to the story and that Cal, Shona, Chrissie and Rocket are in a happier, more settled place after all that's happened to them. I really hope we get to visit with them again sometime, even as a wee cameo appearance in another series would be lovely.

Great series, please give these wonderfully written books a go!
