Pies & Prejudice

In the fourth installment of The Mother Daughter Book Club series, I found myself yet again binging another book in one day.
While I am partial to the first one for the nostalgia it holds, I absolutely adored Pies & Prejudice. The girls are finding more of their personalities, within themselves and the group, and I am falling more in love with them every time. There is such care for illustrating their growth throughout the books that really culminated in their 9th grade year, and the arcs are not lost on me. In a way, they remind me of myself; Finding my own voice within my first year of high school and beyond, adjusting to a new school with new friends, and dealing with leaving old ones behind. Its comforting to read stories that remind you of yourself, and that your experiences are universal in any stage of life, which is a trait that all of my favorite books share.
For the first time, I found myself actually laughing and crying along with them every step of the way (No spoilers, but I will never forgive Heather for what she did at the end). Maybe it was because this was my first time getting my hands on the rest of the series, but I just couldn't put it down.
One of my favorite things that developed really strongly in the fourth book was the connection and exploration of the Club's yearly reading, Pride and Prejudice. Now, every book does a great job at explaining the context of each book that the girls read, so I never feel as if I am in the dark if I haven't read it yet myself. However, the parallels that the girls' own stories had with that of Jane Austen's was something that I really enjoyed. Granted, it helps when the girls literally step into Austen's shoes at one point. Maybe I am just getting used to the writing style, but it was beautifully done. Plus, lets just be honest here: Who doesn't love a wholesome teenage love story? The heart wants what it wants.
