I feel a little bad for giving this book 2 stars, because I do think others would enjoy it, but for me it just felt like a recycled version of the author’s debut novel, from the main character to the themes and even down to the story beats. It didn’t feel original, it didn’t engage with any of its social commentary in a meaningful way, and it had the exact combination of predictable storyline and clueless protagonist that I find extremely irritating to read. Also, there was so much padding to justify making this a series. The main character repeats her insecurities like a mantra multiple times per chapter. This would have been much better as a standalone, and I doubt I will read the sequel.
