Unlike Ibsen's Doll House, in this play the protagonist, had my full sympathy. Hedda is the sum of contradictions with "fear of scandal" holding her back and unfulfilled soul craving life. She believed she is a coward at heart, that she's so weak and unimportant, all through the play she has tried to prove herself to be courageous and to have power over others, finally she does the most courageous act she could think of. My favorite allegory was that of Loveborg resembling Dionysus, the Greek god of wine: "He will be here. I can see him already — with vine- leaves in his hair — flushed and fearless"
