Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins is a follow up, side story to Royals. I'll be frank, and admit that I read Royals because I wanted to read Her Royal Highness.

In Royals, while Daisy is dealing with Seb, his equally wild twin sister is basically just mentioned as a comparison. If you think he's bad — just you wait until you meet Flora. With the exception of the wedding, Flora is basically not present.

So now we reset the clock to fall to see where Flora was and what she's been up to. But it's seen not from her point of view. Instead, like Royals we have an American girl for the protagonist.

The book feels really rushed especially at the end. I feel like the author leaves a thon of loose strings and unfinished situations which give you a sense of it not actually being done; not in a secuel kind of way but in like it doesn’t feel like it has a resolution. Which just feels worse because of the alrready stated fact of it being very rushed, I feel like the author was really desperate to finish it and just didn’t care of how that ending was accomplished.

i really liked this book, i wish it wouldn't have ended so abruptly tho. 

flora and millie are such a cute couple but i wish there would have been more storyline and character development. 

i would have loved to know about their family's reaction and more about flora's coming out story + her mother's reaction to her dating millie. overall it was a good book and fun to read!

first of all, the movie i made in my head for this? fantastic. 

the story not only has the i'm a normal girl and i fell in love with royalty trope AND it also has the infamous enemies to lovers trope, both of which i am completely weak for. 

and i'm not going to say that i'm in love with flora but i'm very much in love with flora. i found millie a little annoying at times? she's just so set on seeing the worst in flora, like sis, relax. but i pictured danielle rose russell as millie and she's just too cute for me to find her annoying continuously. i pictured diana silvers as flora, like legit, she's perfect for that role.

this book is just so cute :( i agree with some of the reviews here though, they went from JUST getting together and being all cute to being desperately and passionately in love wayyyyyy to quickly with very little room left in the book but it's whatever, it's still cute. 

the only reason i didn't give it 5 stars was merely because it was just cute. like, it didn't blow me out of the water or anything, but i enjoyed reading it. it made me smile a lot so :)

THIS WAS SO FREAKIN CUTE. I was pretty much just expecting an easy, fluffy, sweet read about girls in love and THAT IS WHAT I GOT. I loved the boarding school setting and the set-up of the relationship between Flora and Millie. Essentially, they're assigned the same dorm room but instantly don't get along very well. 

I can definitely see the criticisms for this book - the writing is probably not my favourite and the end of the book happens in a rush. I didn't mind where it went, but they definitely jumped from "getting together" to "desperately in love" way to quick. 

That said, I don't really care because I had such a fun time reading this. I essentially only came here for the enemies-to-friends-to-lovers and there is A LOT of build up and tension in this book so it was great. I also really loved the side characters. But most of all, I loved Flora and Millie together. Their banter was sweet and they complimented eachother well. 

For a quick and fluffy read I'd recommend, and if you liked Red, White & Royal Blue you should read it.

I couldn't even finish this book. I read like 70% of it, but I have many problems with it. 
First of all, the book is just TOO BORING. I had so much hype but there's nothing interesting happening??? I was near the end but the characters still hadn't had any romantic interaction, and this is NOT slow burn, it's just boring. And the situations are very random? They don't seem connected at all, I'm just seeing random things happening without a transition, and random changes in the relationship without any development.
The characters??? Completely flat, I couldn't care less about them, really. The main character had some interests at the beginning but they are completely forgotten after a few chapters??? which made me very angry tbh, she was going to Scotland because of the school and her interest in geology but we never see her actually thinking about those things??? Doesn't make any sense.
I've seen a lot of people recommend this book on social media, but to me it was bad, and I wouldn't recommend it.

This was super fun and quick to read, which was exactly what I expected from it, so Im very pleased! The first half wasn't as hooking as the second half, so it was hard for me to get focused on the story at the beggining (my attention span is getting worse over the years how fun is that), but it didn't last too long so I was fine with it. The story itself was really fanfic-y, BUT the good kind so I was thriving with the good haters to lovers trope. Regarding the characters, I loved both Millie and Flora and how they matched so well together, it was super adorable honestly.
I really recommend this book if you're in a reading slump and in search of something light and fun to read!! (Also great for the current situation we're in, it gets your mind off all of the bad things happening!)

this was a quick read, but for my taste too fan-fiction-y. the timeline was a bit confusing to me. don't get me wrong, I liked some parts, but others were just rushed. sometimes I couldnt really understand why a character was acting the way they did.
in my opinion the characters and the story could've been a tad more fleshed out to make this feel more round.

but I do think it's fun to imagine an alternate universe where there is a Scottish royal family.

anyway this is the same in tone as the companion novel before it, and i'm glad i read the first mostly bc it was really fun to see the cameos, but also bc i think if i hadn't, i would've HATED flora until like ... the 60% point. it's such a slowburn and soft unfolding of just the sweetest story. i loved it. if it wasn't sapphic i might have rated it more like 3 stars? but yeah. not even ashamed to say i rated it higher bc of that. i need more sweet wlw romance, i want to be buried in it.

I'm officially hooked on queer royal romances. I read Red, White, and Royal Blue last spring and I loved it. Her Royal Highness has the same charm, complete with so many of my favourite romance tropes.

After being dumped by her best-friend-turned-girlfriend, Millie Quint decides to spend her senior year of high school at a private school in Scotland. I enjoyed Millie as a main character. She's out of her element, but she manages to make her way through all these sticky situations and at least feign confidence through it. And then there's Flora, who Millie antagonizes on her first day, and who happens to be Millie's roommate, and the princess of Scotland. Oops! I loved Flora. She's eccentric and quirky, kind of distant, and loves in strange ways. She doesn't seem like a royal, but she seems like a really great person, even if she is a chaos demon who starts bar fights.

And the romance. Oh, my goodness, the romance. We've got rivals-to-friends-to-lovers. We've got the roommate romance. We've got falling in love with a member of the royal family. Seriously, straight people have had this trope for so long so I am glad we're finally getting it now?? I adored every part of it. The romance is sweet, and adorable, and Millie and Flora have so much chemistry, and in addition it's also slow burn. There's a bit of turmoil but not the kind that made me frustrated, and really, this book just reads like a typical rom-com, but it was so much more enjoyable for me because of how much I loved the characters and how cute Millie and Flora were. Mostly I just adored the romance all around.

Her Royal Highness is, technically, an alternate universe--there is no princess of Scotland. I can't recall whether Scotland is independent or not in this universe, but it's not really explained, and all the names and culture honestly felt a bit incongruous to what I know of royalty. I could suspend my disbelief of that and put it behind me, though, because seeing Millie navigate this world was just so fun. There's fancy dinners and balls and pretty dresses, and I am absolutely raving over it because us sapphic gals do not get to have this often and it absolutely delights me.

I definitely recommend Her Royal Highness as a fun rom-com, especially if you're a fan of rivals to lovers, or royal romances, or you just need more f/f romances. The characters are delightful, the setting is fun, and the romance is absolutely swoonworthy; what else do you need?
