Interesting read, but not life-changing. Spurred a bit of thought in the realm of what internal happiness is.

It's clear that Hesse derived from his eastern endeavors, and then melded it with western philosophy (stoicism mostly), so this was a cool read to understand that landscape.

Akhirnya bisa nyelesain buku ini setelah 2 bulan lebih belum sempat baca lagi. Well,, Siddhartha menceritakan perjalanan hidup Siddhartha muda mencari OM (Kesempurnaan : arti harfifah di bukunya). Dalam perjalanan awalnya dia di temani sahabatnya govindha mengikuti hidup para samana, akhirnya di tinggal govindha yang bertemu dengan Gauttama,, orang yang dianggap suci dan memiliki ajaran kebenaran,, diperjalanan selanjutnya siddhartha mengalami banyak pergolakan sampai dia mendapat arti OM itu sendiri. 

Ini merupakan karya Hermann Hesse pertama kali ku baca. Plot cerita yang lambat dan narasi yang panjang khas karya-karya classic pada umumnya kadang membuat baca agak lama dan bosen di tengah cerita.

Cerita nya sendiri berisi banyak petuah dan filsafat hidup yang berapa banyak ada di kehidupan sehari-hari, namun masih sulit untuk dimengerti.

Overall, aku kasih 3,5 bintang buat ceritanya yang sarat makna dan banyak kutipan-kutipanya membangun. Recomen buat pembaca yang mencari bacaan spritual yang tak berkesan menggurui (In my opinion).

At first I really didn't like it. I thought the beginning was very slow and Siddhartha was just a "childish" man (like he kept saying of others). He kept saying how superior he was and it really annoyed me. As the story progressed, I started to like it a lot more. I'm still not sure if I like Siddhartha, but it's beautifully written and it really made me think.

This book is extremely relevant and reflective. I recommend to anyone in a time of big life changes

I had heard so much about this book. That it was amazing, that it was a must read, but also that it was too philosophical, slow, too dense, and more. I am a page turner type of book lover so no dense books for me please. I went into it a little skeptical but, its only about 200 pages, so how bad can it be? The veredict: It's magic! ♥️ This book is art. This book is pure, beautiful magic. It is not dense, it is actually a very simple story of Siddhartha who is looking to find the truth of life and beautifully finds it, in himself. It teacher you to love life with all that it comes with. It is one of those books you will think of many times after you read it and that will give you life lessons and will change your life. 5/5 review! .

Siddhartha was a great book. It's simplicity was incredibly complex, which I think can be said for many books of that nature. While I enjoyed it, and I think it is a wonderful book, I was not moved the way my friends were when they read it. I know I shouldn't expect things like that because the moment you do, of course it doesn't happen. But this was slightly different. I think if I had read this book at a different time in my life, it would have meant more. But I've been through the struggles of who I am, my purpose, what the self means and what I mean, so this book was more looking back at my life than helping me in the here and now. But still thoroughly enjoyable, and highly recommended.

I was at first very scared when I got this book. Even though it is short, I heard that it had a lot of philosophical elements to it. However, when looking for a new book to read I picked this up from my shelf and just read the first couple of pages. I was surprised at how simple the book explained philosophical aspects that would otherwise push me away. The book is interesting. I never had any knowledge of this way of thinking. Although it has some very very strange and random parts, the book as a whole intrigued me. And it also interested me seeing how people of different faiths dealt with various things. Pretty good read.

Siddhartha manifests itself as a journey that stays with you. As Hermann seems to pass on a message of love as a not-so-new breath of air, it still feels fresh and anew by the way he delivers it.

A book about a journey that we all go through and will go through- it acts like a spiritual friend that has beautiful things to say in beautiful ways that will keep you wondering and make you ruminate on your quest, your tailing, your desires and your journey. 
The book might make you want more of it, but as you would finish the book you realise, you are the one to write in that same more that you are wanting - by yourself. It plays like a venerable cassette that helps you to wind back and re-instantiate your own cassette.

Who wouldn't want to escape the circle of suffering? 

 is my personal favorite. Each time I re-read it I feel close to different part of the main character's journey.

Like Siddhartha himself, this improves as you go - honestly when I started I thought "the thing is, Govinda, I'm not sure that Siddhartha isn't a little bit of a shit" (he initially comes across as very much "patronising posh boy on gap yah"), which was aggravating, but once he matures a bit (thanks in no small part to Kamala and Vasuveda, both v sympathetic characters from the get-go) it becomes a lot easier to read. The style is simple but beautiful throughout too. Lots to ponder here.

An amazing book of teaching and self-discovery. I cannot recommend this book enough. I had always thought it'd be long and stingy but it was more human and thoughtful than anything. This here, has potential to be scripture.

I read it for the Great American Read, and i don't think I would have otherwise. As far as spiritual books go, I didn't think it was bad. My issue was mainly with some of the ending and feeling like it was dragging on, with not much to say afterwards.

If you want a lyrical story with some opinions on consumerism and Buddhism, this is definitely a book for you. I thought it was good, but as I started Part 2 it dwindled.
