I have no patience for philosophy, let alone academic philosophy. In some parts of the book it reminded me of the more academic passages of philosophy that you encounter at school. 

Having said this, this book was really good. It really made me think of some of the stuff I've experienced in the past and I had important inner discussions while reading the book on what is the meaning of improving oneself. I would strongly encourage you to read this if you're looking to criticize yourself and what sort of thing you can improve upon.
