I've been reading about zombies lately and Hollowland is the best of them. Talk about kick ass zombies and a kick ass heroine! One of my favorite things about this book: there's a guy name Blue, like the color! There's also rockstar & a zombie-eating lioness! The only thing impending me from giving it 5 stars was the ending, because I wanted to know more! Overall, everyone should read this book.

Ok. Stop. Pause. Rewind. How could Amanda Hocking do this to me? How could she take me through an adventure filled with zombies, adventure and survival and end it on such a cliffhanger? It's like the cruellest form of literary torture! I have heard great things about Hocking's writing from a friend lately and decided to trust her judgement. That, ladies and gentlemen, turned out to be one of the best decisions of the year. Compared to Hocking's My Blood Approves series it was much more gritter and hard-hitting. In Remy's world a zombie virus has spread turning people into flesh eating beasts. After the quarantine where Remy and her younger brother Max is put under attack by zombies, Remy escapes with another girl named Harlow but her brother is evacuated north to another quarantine. Heading north with Harlow, Remy picks up a lion, a doctor named Blue and a rockstar named Lazlo. Honestly I have no words fit my feelings properly. Remy was strong, head-smart and positively kick-ass. Remy believes in the protection of others over herself and will sacrifice anything or everything to keep the people she loves and cares about safe. Lazlo was sweet but not the brightest spanner in the tool box. Still, he was well... HOT! He could be so kind when he wanted to be and he would always try to fight even if he wasn't the best at it. Blue was brave and even though he wasn't the most talkative, he was loyal and loving. Sadly, I have to say that I really didn't think much of Harlow. I know she's only 13 but even I had more sense than her at times. Yet, even though she was foolish and mostly babyish I can't bring myself to hate her. And finally, RIPLEY! She has to be my favourite animal character in any book. I just have to promise you that you will never be disappointed in this book and I'm seriously not kidding! This book will have you infected with something that will make you as hungry as a zombie.

This book is filled with utter chaos and craziness and I loved every minute! "Hollowland" is just plain FUN. Remy King is on a mission. To find her little brother who was taken from one government run quarantine to another after the first was breached by flesh eating zombies. Along with 13 yr old Harlow, Lazlo the former rockstar, Blue the med student and Ripley the tamed tiger, Remy makes her way through the remaining wasteland of what was America. Cults, marauders, zombies......what's not to love??? This book was not without faults....I found quite a few editing errors (which always irk me), and the story was completely far fetched (but this IS fiction and fantasy right???) But if you're looking for a complete escape from reality I highly recommend this book! One other thing I would like to mention: I actually had a question regarding this series and sent the author a personal message. Amanda Hocking responded THE VERY NEXT DAY. This is something that showed me that she was genuinely interested in her audience and I appreciated the fact that she took the time to respond to my inquiry. I can't wait to read the next book in this series and checking out some of Amanda Hocking's other works!!

Remy is a girl on a mission. After a quarantine area was overrun with zombies and she finds out that her brother was taken away while everyone else was left to die, she heads out to find him. Accompanied by Harlow (an immature 13 year old), she tracks cross country, trying to find him. Along the way, she meets up with "Ripley", a lioness that was used in Vegas shows, Lazlo, a former rock star, and Blue, a medical student. Together, this group of friends blaze a trail across the country and through zombies.....all to find Remy's brother. I like zombie books, even though zombies themselves scare the crap out of me, and this was a good one. It was never explained how the disease started....just that it totally wiped out the world. The zombies themselves were disgusting. Lazlo annoyed me throughout most of the book. But, then again, I think the author meant from him to be annoying. He did annoy Remy through about 90% of the book...lol. Will I read this book again? Yes and I want to read Book#2. Will I reccomend this book to family and friends? Yes.
