           Wow. Just. Wow.

Despite the poor writing Holly and Cassie have done lately on the series, TSM really surprised me.

Jesus, Callum Hunt's character evolution is HUGE. His time in prison really did him some good.

Anyway, this is a great book and a great plot.

A generation ago, Constantine Madden came close to achieving what no magician had ever achieved: the ability to bring back the dead. He didn't succeed . . . but he did find a way to keep himself alive, inside a young child named Callum Hunt. Now Call is one of the most feared and reviled students in the history of the Magisterium, thought to be responsible for a devastating death and an ever-present threat of war. As a result, Call has been imprisoned and interrogated. Everyone wants to know what Constantine was up to-and how he lives on. But Call has no idea. It is only when he's broken out of prison that the full potential of Constantine's plan is suddenly in his hands . . . and he must decide what to do with his power. In this spellbinding fourth book of Magisterium, bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare take us beyond the realm of the living and into the dangers of the dead.

It was good, I did like it , but it wasn’t amazing.

Ok. I think I can finally articulate my thoughts into something.
When the book started, I told myself "Ah, yes. A 4 star book. Meh." But then that romance/fiasco/wth thingamajig happened and I immediately decided to drop it at 3, just so I wouldn't have to give a 2.
Seriously, reading those few awful pages physically hurt.
But ya know, I kept on reading because I sure as heck ain't back to wasting money on books that I DNF, and let me tell you, it was worth it.
Like sure, at first it went back to a 4stars, but boy did that ending make my heart skip a few beats
So you know...5 stars. Yeah. Bye

Continues the adventures of Call and his friends in the Magisterium.

Oh my word! This book went to a few places I didn't actually expect!

If you've been enjoying the series up to this point, you should like this one as well. I think this was my lowest rated of these so far. And really, that's because in comparison to the fast-past traveling, moving all around of the past, this book takes place almost exclusively in one location. I think that makes it feel more stagnant than usual.

The characters are just as wonderful as always but there's just this hint of something that felt off for me this time. Maybe it's because our main cast is growing up (view spoiler)[or dead in Aaron's case (hide spoiler)] but it just didn't feel right. (view spoiler)[Also I think a lot of what Aaron brought to the group is whole-heartedly missing. He was probably my favorite character so the view of him here is just... so disappointing. Except for the very end! Am I right? (hide spoiler)]

I feel like there was less magic and fun in this one. Which actually makes sense, they're getting into darker times and more serious danger. As this book is compared A LOT to Harry Potter, I'd say this is the Half-Blood Prince of this series. Like, everything that happens is important, but it just doesn't have the fun of the previous books.

That all being said, I enjoyed this book very much. I am so excited for the concluding novel and I can't wait to see where everything ends, especially after that ending!

Callum Hunt's life has fallen apart. His friend is gone. The spy has escaped. His secret is out. He is facing an existence behind bars, banished from the rest of the magical community for what he is - for what he might become. But a shocking revelation has promised freedom - at a cost. Will he stay strong, and faithful to his friends and teachers? Or take the risk, and destroy everything he's ever loved? This fourth year at the Magisterium will be unlike anything else that has gone before . . . 'I can't wait to read more of this series!' - Rick Riordan

I have to admit I was expecting more from this book. The first two in the series I thought were really strong then the third was a little iffy but this one felt really disjointed. Call spends far too much time worrying about whether or not a girl likes him - seriously? There are far more pressing concerns to think about. I know this book takes place over a much shorter time period but it just left me feeling a little let down. I am hoping this will be rectified in the next book.
