Più che un historical fiction mi ha dato l'idea di un thriller. Avrebbe potuto essere ambientato in qualunque periodo storico e la storia sarebbe filata. Personalmente questa è un'ulteriore prova del fatto che i thriller non sono il mio genere. Se non fosse stato uno dei libri di Follett che avevo in casa, non so se l'avrei comprato XD. 
Mi è piaciuta l'ultima parte, che ho divorato, e i personaggi. Alcuni sono parecchio sessisti, ma è ambientato nel 1940 e la concezione della donna lavoratrice all'epoca era... discutibile diciamo.
