it's been a month and i have no idea what to say about this book. so little happened in majority of the book and everything happened in the last 40 pages.

This book is the reason I joined the Book of the Month club!!! Well not this book specifically, but books like this. This book was my online book club’s May 2021 pick also, and I loved every word. 
	Daniel is a wheelchair-bound, work-from-home man who witnessed a college student get into a car. He eventually discovered that he witnessed a kidnapping. He lives most of his life online, with the exception of the best friend on the planet and what appears to be a caretaker who is the equivalent of a doting grandmother. He somehow decides it’s a great idea to correspond with the kidnapper, and despite all the horrible things that happen, hilarity seems to ensue. It shouldn’t have been funny, but it was kinda funny. 
	The way this is written kept me engaged throughout. Leitch sprinkles in Daniel’s backstory and information about his illness in creative ways. Leitch wrote about Daniel’s best friend and Daniel’s caretaker in a way that made me fall completely in love with them. Leitch even manages to create empathy for the bad guy. Daniel’s mother is always traveling with a “friend,” which, on the surface, seems like an irresponsible thing to do when your son is confined to a wheelchair and has a terminal illness and could die any moment, but Daniel’s attitude about her is so endearing you end up loving his mom. It’s just a really well put together story. 
	But I’m still mad Leitch didn’t explain the damn mud.

The writing of this book was a refreshing change of pace and witty at times. I really enjoyed Daniel's story and the cozy mystery element. 

I enjoyed reading about SMA and seeing Daniel's perspective on the world. I think the ending was a beautiful wrap up and powerful take away.

wow. just wow. I’ve been in a reading slump that has lasted months and THIS JUST CURED IT.

I’m going to keep this review short and sweet. will leitch’s writing is so unique and captivating and a literal hidden gem. I felt like I was in daniel’s head the entire time because it literally felt like I was thinking his thoughts during present time. the chapters were short and the story was fast-paced.

it was so eye-opening to read about a character like daniel. I learned a lot about his disease, spinal muscle atrophy (sma), and I truly did enjoy how lighthearted yet impactful the discussion surrounding it was. as sad as it is to say, I’ve never read a book this inclusive. you know how some authors write certain characters to be inclusive and seek the validation and praise for doing it? well mr. leitch succeeded in NOT being one of those. he did this story so!!!!! fucking!!!!! well!!!!!!!!!!

also — the SUSPENSE I felt was insane. I couldn’t put it down. how lucky was such a fun read and I loved how each character had their own little quirks about them. definitely a recommendation for everyone.

This book had an excellent blend of being incredibly informative about a condition I never would have learned about on my own, without being pushy, while also being a great thriller.
