I got this book for Lilly to read at the beach but I read it instead >:) this totally comes off as a first collection, which it is and that’s totally fine. I think Róisín was playing around with how she could mess with structure with a lot of (parentheses) and    separated    words and emphasisiiiing letters with elongation and italics. I’m sure she found her happy threshold and am interested to read her second collection. The block paragraph poem form is maybe my all-time favorite way to write and I loved reading “utopia” and “my island home” especially. Have to shout out the Daughters of the Dust ref on pp. 82, sick reference no doubt. 

Really great art piece of read with the illustrations from Ramos and the colors of the pages were really great with the differing type color. I hope my first collection looks and reads as good as this is.

I would rate this collection better, but honestly, the author used so much advanced English that I had a hard time understanding what they were saying half the time. Although it did teach me some statistics that I didn't know and some new topics to research and be angry about.

Beautiful illustrations, and loved the ideas behind the poetry. The poems themselves? Not so much. It’s hard to take it seriously when they include “#goals” and other netspeak. In particular, I felt my heart shatter when an otherwise beautiful poem unnecessarily contained the word “cum”… Just why… why….? I’d love to read a short story collection by Roisin but will be staying away from her poetry.
