I looked back Over at Dawn. She and I were opposite in many ways but statistically so similar. A couple of Black ways Women staring down our midforties and successful-ish, thanks to being Black one-percenters with family funds to fall back on We were both happily single and getting perhaps a little too content with being so after running over the river and through the city with dating. Still, anyone would tell us that because of our ages we should be looking for Mr. Right. Like real hard. Not blissfully binge-watching Netflix series, fangirling over our old crushes and drooling over the younger up-and-comers. We drove our parents nuts and our married friends even nuttier.

There are some enormous fundamental flaws in this novel. Let’s address the one I consider the biggest: Why is a thirty-something obsessed over a celebrity SO much that she puts her life on hold to engage on a cross-country pointless chase? I remember being in 8th grade and utterly convinced if I had 15 minutes alone with Joey McIntyre, I could convince him I was the girl of his dreams. I was 13. 13. Let me repeat myself: I was THIRTEEN YEARS OLD. What is perfectly acceptable during the pubescent emotional development of a very young woman is really not ok for a woman approaching middle age (or was she even older…? Like her ovaries are about to shrivel up old?). Instead of placating this woman, True and her other friends really should have forced her into some form of psychiatric care. 
	The second flaw is the really overused I-have-loved-you-forever-but-I’m-content-just-being-friends narrative. It’s barely even believable. However, in this novel, the outlandish and juvenile seem to be what the author is going for. The progression from “just friends” to FWB felt off-kilter, rushed, and not at all sincere. The romance between True and Lue just made zero sense to me. I found this entire book irritating.

A cute friends-to-lovers about a woman having a bit of a mid-life crisis and embarking on an adventure to get her out of the rut she has found herself in. Lou has lived in a bit of a holding pattern since the death of her brother many years earlier. One of the things that helped her get through her grief was the movies of her favourite actor, Keanu Reeves. News of Keanu's impending wedding and possible retirement from acting has sent Lou into a tailspin. She comes up with a plan to meet her idol and talk him out of retiring. 

The characters are delightful and fully fleshed out. The friendships of the main three are fun and had me laughing out loud.

In truth, the book is probably more of a 4, but I read a lot of one star reviews here that contained plot points that never happened. Not sure why people feel the need to drag something they haven't read, but the book was an enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more from the author

As you might expect from the title, you need to work hard at suspending your disbelief throughout (and/or drink every time the protagonist happens to meet a hot famous dude who isn't Keanu). 

Definitely an improvement after The Love Hypothesis (in all respects) (although there's the whole JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER thing that goes on for basically the whole book) but maybe Talia Hibbert and Alexis Hall have just ruined all other romance writing for me, IDK.
