The Thing on the Doorstep
Reviews

I am starting to like Lovecraft's style. More, please.

I was scared I would hate the writing (because I only ever read negative things on Lovecraft's writing and this was my first time reading him) but i actually really enjoyed this!

Rating All 19 Lovecraft Stories Within the Necronomicon (Audible Audio Book) ~ Part 18 - The Thing on the Doorstep. I'd give this story 4.5, rounded up to 5. This story was captivating; From the opening line... "It is true that I have sent six bullets through the head of my best friend, and yet I hope to show by this statement that I am not his murderer." To the blood-curdling finale... The only slight gripe I had with this story (aside from the unnecessary sexism) is I could not fully empathise with the story's main protagonist, Daniel Upton, as I feel that the reader can clearly see where the story is headed, and yet, although Dan recognises and acknowledges the impending horror, is slow to act and frustratingly ignorant of what is happening. In my top 5 Lovecraft stories of all time, definitely recommended.
