In volume 1 of this series, the descendants of the Mainline Savage family of England, and also of many of the cadet branches are given, from the time when they arrived in England from Normandy during the reign of William the Conqueror until the 20th century. Outlines of the biographies of many of the heads of each family were also given, but not for most of the other descendants of the Mainline and the Cadet lines as there was not enough space in the book. The second and third volumes contain records and biographies of many of the prominent members of the Mainline and other Savage families under categorised headings. The Savage families are categorised into orders of social class which stem from Medieval times : Lords, Knights, Esquires, Gentlemen, Yeoman, and ordinary folk. In more recent times, members of society have been divided into the various professions such as Army personal, Naval personal, Airforce personal, Doctors, Lawyers, Scientists, Politicians, Artists, Poets, etc., thus, the more recent members of the various Savage families have been categorised as such : Clergy, Army, Navy, Airforce, Doctors, Lawyers, Scientists, Politicians, Artists, Writers, etc. In this volume entitled "Notable Savages in History I : Aristocracy, Knights, Esquires and Gentlemen," the biographies for members of the Savage families who were of the classes of Aristocracy, Knights (and Honorary Barons), Esquires and Gentlemen, are given.
