Caroline is a Hurricane Child: born in the midst of a hurricane and considered unlucky. But she didn't really feel that unlucky until her mother left and didn't come back. Sporadic postcards from around the world gradually died out until Caroline hasn't heard anything of her mother for months. When Kalinda transfers to her school, Caroline finds a friend and kindred spirit who can see the same things she can - things that no one else seems to be able to see. Together, the two set out to find Caroline's mother and in the meantime find a deep and abiding friendship. This is a beautifully written queer book with wonderful touches of magical realism.
