I thought that the beginning of the book, the first 50 pages were the strongest part and I really enjoyed it. 

Then it went wayward and the biggest problem were how the language, the settings and the interactions between hero and heroines felt very modern. Without the costumes' description, the titles and the ball, this book could very well be read as contemporary romance.

Also I felt such disconnect with the heroine whom I was ready to fall in love within the first few chapters. So few character developments and I was baffled by lots of her thinking process and she became really uninteresting when the romance begin. 
Hero did fare slightly better as the story goes but still frustratingly not so resourceful as the Duke and his 'darkness' really wasn't as dark as I was used to in other HR heroes. 

In short, this book is tame in every aspect. If you like to read really light, easy HR then by all means look no further.
