I am surrounded by the everyday. I have as many potential worries as most people. Just because you make a record or two doesn't mean you don't have worries.

I'm really quite simple. I don't want to be in the business full-time because I'm a gardener. I plant flowers and watch them grow. I don't go to clubs and partying. I stay at home and watch the river flow.

This is why fame is a dangerous bird but there is no doubt that it can be dealt with most firmly and, even, tamed and I would guess that there is no combination of weapons more dynamic than a strong childhood within the closeness of Liverpool, a sense of humour and a belief in a power higher than ourselves.

Eric (Clapton) was sitting opposite me and he looked at the paper—upside down to him—and cracked up: he said 'what's that—badge?' and I said 'it's bridge'. So later Eric called the song 'Badge'. It's funny, now he actually songs in concert at the end of the song 'Where is my badge?'.

Later Ringo came in—he was absolutely plastered—and we were up to the lines:

'I told you not to drive around in the dark. I told you...'

'...about the swans that live in the park.'

It's a bit silly, but that's what happened, folks.

But life is heaven and hell, we see it as , or make it into hell or heaven: there's no heaven and hell beyond relativity.

The truth within us has to be realised: when you realise that everything else that you see and do and touch and smell isn't real, then you may know what reality is and can answer the question 'who am I'?.

Allan Klein thought it was an Italian song—you know, Cara Mia Mine but it's about the ego: the eternal problem...

It was a chance to realise that if I felt somebody had let me down, then there's a good chance I was letting someone else down. We all tend to break each others' hearts, taking and not giving back—isn't it a pity.

The strange thing about change is that people are always saying 'oh he's changed' as if change is a sin, but the whole life is a change: from the morning to the evening; from spring to winter—everything is a change—from birth to death; life is change. So it's funny how people won't accept change: preferring almost to rearrange nature itself. Would they rather everything were stuck in one place forever?
