Deutsche Frauen waren töricht, beschloss Priti, auch wenn Nivedita das erst später erfuhr. Und leider völlig anders als in Run Lola Run, wo Franka Potente stark und sexy und ... potent war. Nur das Gerücht über die deutschen Achselhaare stimmte, sonst nichts, lächerlich.

Das war Witz, Wissen und ganz viel Politik in einem. Ich hab oft gelacht, viel dazu gelernt und es sehr genossen diese Konfliktbeschreibung der Saraswaiti und deren Entwicklung zu verfolgen.

Denn die Professorin für Postcolonial Studies in Düsseldorf war eben noch die Übergöttin aller Debatten über Identität – und beschrieb sich als Person of Colour. Als würden Sally Rooney, Beyoncé und Frantz Fanon zusammen Sex Education gucken, beginnt damit eine Jagd nach „echter“ Zugehörigkeit. Während das Netz Saraswati hetzt und Demos ihre Entlassung fordern, stellt ihre Studentin Nivedita ihr intimste Fragen. Mithu Sanyal schreibt mit beglückender Selbstironie und befreiendem Wissen. Den Schleudergang dieses Romans verlässt niemand, wie er*sie ihn betrat.

Jeder Charakter, jede Unterhaltung wird in den Diskurs eingebettet und sie sind alle unglaublich anstrengend. Das Buch bleibt trotzdem unterhaltsam und wirft einige interessante Fragen auf.
