Monsters

Ilsa J. Bick2013
The Hunger Games mixes with The Walking Dead in this post-apocalyptic YA series that comes to a hair-raising conclusion in Monsters. The Changed are on the move. The Spared are out of time. The End...is now. When her parents died, Alex thought things couldn't get much worse—until the doctors found the monster in her head. She headed into the wilderness as a good-bye, to leave everything behind. But then the end of the world happened, and Alex took the first step down a treacherous road of betrayal and terror and death. Now, with no hope of rescue—on the brink of starvation in a winter that just won't quit—she discovers a new and horrifying truth. The Change isn't over. The Changed are still evolving. And...they've had help. With this final volume of The Ashes Trilogy, Ilsa J. Bick delivers a riveting, blockbuster finish, returning readers to a brutal, post-apocalyptic world where no one is safe and hope is in short supply. A world where, from these ashes, the monsters will rise.

** spoiler alert ** Not my favourite of the three but uuuuuugh Tom 💕💕💕 I LOVE him! I enjoyed so much of this book, some bits of the book did drag a little bit, like the bits where Chris was like day dreaming or whatever, honestly I skim read some of those (don’t hate me). The reunion of Tom and Ellie made me cry it was so sweet, probably my favourite part. I love the development of Ellie through the three books! It was such a good bit when Ellie has to lead the little girl to the woods from the wagon, when the Changed attack just brings memories of the beginning of Book 1 when Alex meets Ellie and gets stuck with her and drags her everywhere and it just showed her growth from the beginning. Still so intrigued with Wolf (is that weird I love him more than Chris?) and how he still has a bit of Simon, and that ending with him and Alex 😩 their connection is so unique and I wish the book didn’t end there because I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN THEM GOD DAMN IT. Anyways you get the gist you that I loved it and fell in love with the characters.

Dense, very dense. I probably should have reread the previous two books before jumping into this 800 page Monster (ha). The action started immediately with nary a look back at previous events, and many of the characters I barely remembered from the first go around. I skimmed most of this book, read the end, and was still confused. I will try this one again at a later time.
