Immunity

Immunity

Erin Bowman2020
Survivors of a deadly planetary outbreak take on a new, sinister adversary in the white-knuckle sequel to Contagion, which New York Times bestselling author Amie Kaufman called "gripping, thrilling, and terrifying in equal measures." Thea, Coen, and Nova have escaped from Achlys, only to find themselves imprisoned on a ship they thought was their ticket to safety. Now the nightmare they thought they'd left behind is about to be unleashed as an act of political warfare, putting the entire galaxy at risk. To prevent an interstellar catastrophe, they'll have to harness the evil of the deadly Achlys contagion and deploy the only weapons they have left: themselves. Fans of Jonathan Maberry, Rick Yancey, and Madeleine Roux will relish Bowman's tense, high-stakes conclusion to the events of contagion.

3.5 stars. I have been picking up and putting down this book for weeks, slowly making my way through until finally I started getting irritated with myself and decided to just sit down and get it off the to be read pile. I’m happy I finally did. Immunity was once again a fun read. I definitely think that Contagion was much better in terms of suspense, but Immunity shone in it’s own right. After a kind of slow start as the action begins to kick in I found myself immersed in the world once again which was both recognisable but totally transformed with most of the book taking place in ships. Speaking of romance, I wasn’t overly fond of the pining between Thea and Coen at times, but it was never dragged out to an unbearable point so I forgive them for that because they were essentially being held hostage. They didn’t have much else to do during that period. And even if I think Nova’s new romance was a bit too easy I’m glad that she has found someone who actually seems to care about her in a meaningful way after the shit show that was Dylan. I also just have a lot of respect for Erin Bowman because she didn't fabricate an easy conclusion to the conflict in this book. She really said to stop this trouble people are going to die, a lot of them and she stuck her guns. Even if there were things I found a little too convenient for the characters I enjoyed the realness of the situation. We also get to find out what happened to Thea’s mother all those years ago which was a little anticlimactic in my opinion. Though beggars can’t be choosers and she was a fun character.

This book definitely had a different feel to it than Contagion but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Erin did a good job of tying the story up nicely and basically giving me everything I had hoped for!

Full review on my blog, Storied Adventures! This was such a fun wrap up to the duology! I liked Contagion a tad bit better because it was more intense, BUT you get to know the characters a lot more in this book. Oh, I LOVE Thea and Coen together! They have good chemistry.
