“Well, some penguins spend ages searching for the perfect pebble on the beach that they want to give to the penguin that they really like. Sort of like a proposal, when two people are in love and they want to get married, and the guy gives the girl a ring?"

“No.” His answer was firm. “I’m not sure I have one.”

I refused to believe that. Everyone had their own penguin, including Archer. If he managed to open his eyes just a little bit, he might possibly find that maybe his penguin was right in front of him.

“But . . . Archer doesn’t,” I said as an afterthought.

“No,” Carlo agreed. “He doesn’t. But he sees you.”

It wasn’t painful, like I thought it would be. It was easy, like falling asleep. I felt so much better when my eyes closed, knowing I didn’t have to open them again.

“I . . .” He sucked in a breath, splotches of pink covering his cheeks. “I really . . . haveanappreciationforpenguinsnow.”

I didn’t comprehend what he was saying at first, but when it finally sunk in, I had to smile. “You think I’m your penguin,” I said.

This was such a fun read in wattpad when I started out. The writing is immaculate and covers the whole vibes of being teenagers. Then you also have romance as the main plot, and may I say, this is how you explore opening up and improve your mental wellness or your overall health. The main characters were written quite beautiful: Hadley Jamison, the one who I truly loved as a character, has shown her compassion and kindness to keep Archer alive upon seeing his mother's tears, But along the way, Hadley fell in love with the boy whom he had to save. 

One thing in particular that I didn't like here was the ending. There's something missing, and it felt quite rushed for some reason. But that's all of my problem with the text itself, everything else is great.

In the end, it's a great story in the perspective of a teenager who has a great skill at communication. And to you Hadley, a person who I admire to be everyday, will always be in my heart!!!

One of the best romance books I‘ve read so far. 

I couldn’t put down the book. I had some work to get done, but around 1am I started reading. It’s currently 5:36 am as I‘m writing this and I‘ve just finished the book. I’m absolutely mesmerized.

It was obvious by the way Archer spoke about him, and by his expression, that Chris was the man he considered to be his real father. Blood had nothing to do with it.

If he managed to open his eyes just a little bit, he might possibly find that maybe his penguin was right in front of him.

“I don’t like the way he was looking at you,” Archer finally said, glancing over at me. “Like you were something to eat.”

“Death . . .” Tears started to splash down my cheeks without my control. “I’m . . . I’m dead. I’m dead, aren’t . . . aren’t I?

4.5 i liked it. not really sure what i liked ab it but i did 🤷🏻‍♀️ the plot was interesting/unique & i loved hadley and archer. there were in fact some tears

okok so i read the wattpad then bought the actual book. the author’s writing has improved, but i feel like the wattpad was better at communicating the feelings. it felt like the actual book didn’t focus on important emotions hadley was having. also, the wattpad gave a better sense of family/home ig?? for example,  archer only having one sister, them not going on the family trip together, one of the sisters not getting hurt, hadley not seeing chris in “heaven”, not “meeting” archer in the chinese restaurant, and lots of other small things like that took away from the feeling of the book. it took away some of my favorite interactions. the wattpad set the bar high and unfortunately the book didn’t meet that expectation. still a good book, i love it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My feelings about this book are pretty neutral. Essentially, I thought it was somewhat entertaining, but was obviously a Wattpad book. The writing was pretty bad and it even contained a few typos, but the plot was fulfilling enough that this didn't excessively bother me.

Some examples of why the writing was amateur at best include:

- The author assumed that the reader would have no knowledge of the outside world. She felt the need to explain what PTSD was and how a judicial appeal worked. Last time I checked any average middle schooler would know these things. 
- There was a huge case of absent parent syndrome (incredibly common in old YA/Wattpad style).
- The characters were pretty dry and I didn't have any connection to the romance, or anyone for that matter. 
- 'Foreshadowing' was super basic and obvious.
- Repetitive use of good scene, bad scene, good scene, bad scene, etc. made it very predictable. 
- Overly dramatic

I know it may seem like these are all negatives, but despite these factors, I was still engaged while reading. Sure, I could recognize the flaws of the book and how this author still has a lot of work to do in order to grow, but that doesn't mean the book was completely bad. I liked it's message, and it could definitely work better for either a younger reader or someone who likes the old YA/Wattpad style.

The best, happiest and saddest book I have ever read! I read it while it was still only on Wattpad and instantly fell in love with the story, the characters, literally everything! I felt everything the main character felt and cried on every second page! I love the style it was written and how the two characters, that had nothing to do with each other, connected! I recommend this book every single person! it's amazing!
