Maya Banks always gives some of the best Highlander story romances.
This was somewhat funny, had a bit of plot twists & a happy ending which made this book a good read!

Mairin has been in fear for over ten years ever since she was hidden away in a convent since she was a child, but then the convent is attacked and she is kidnapped and on the way to the Laird Cameron who wants to marry her to get access to her land, she saves a young boy, and they are later rescued by his father Laird McCabe, who scares her at first but when she knows she has no choice but to marry him and soon she will start to realize that there is nothing to fear from Ewan. There is a powerful desire that sweeps them both into a sweet world of ecstasy and soon only with their love for one another will they be able to withstand the dangerous tides that may sweep them both into danger... In Bed With A Highlander is the first in the series and I would have to say my absolute favorite book in the trilogy. I normally don't read many books from Maya Banks but I am so glad that I picked this trilogy up....definitely well worth the reading and and I just have the greatest weakness for Highland romances, but I would say this book is at the top of the list. I just loved how feisty Mairin was in the book and how Ewan could be so hilarious in his stubborn and protective nature. There were so many instances throughout the novel here that I just laughed harder than I have in a long time. The story plot was so full of surprises and twists and turns that almost could make one's head spin. There was such substance and a sense of fun throughout the plot and the characters. The romance and the love scenes were definitely at the top and full of heat and sensuality. I absolutely loved In Bed With A Highlander and one I would recommend to anyone that enjoys a romance that is full of delight and beautiful and tender scenes that will pull at the strings of your heart.

Spoil Free Review Rating: 5 stars - Amazing Genre: Historical Romance Heat: Hot - Fan Yourself Source: Bought (PB) Maya Banks In Bed With A Highlander has it all, right from the delicious cover I could stare at all day, interesting plot to amazing characters I adored. I have a huge girl crush on Mairin. Adored her love and devotion towards Ewan, his clan and mostly towards his son Crispen. Maya Banks is well known for weaving family and secondary characters in her novels. She does it so well that they add so much to her stories, never take away from hero/heroine. They all play a big part in her novels. I loved the scenes with Mairin and Crispen such sweet moments. She was a good roll model for him. When it came to Ewan and his clan she was a feisty little thing that had me giggling. Poor Ewan has his hands full with her. She defies him so much but deep inside he truly enjoys it. Ewan is a strong leader of his clan. He carries so much on his shoulder from trying to protect his clan, get them ready for battle with his enemies who have taken so much away from him. Layers were nicely peeled away with his character. Little by little he is able to learn to love again. Love a delicious Alpha Male highlander. I want more of Maya Banks sexy highlander McCabe brothers. Originally posted at Wickedly Delicious Book Blog

I love strong-willed, kick-ass female characters, but there were definitely time where Mairin became annoying in this story. There were times it felt like she was just being dumb and it was far to unrealistic, even for me. For instance, she was raised in a convent, but somehow thinks that she has a full understanding of how to be a mistress of a keep without asking anyone for any sort of guidance. This would have been fine and could have even been endearing and funny, but she never seems to acknowledge that she has a great deal to learn, so instead it just ended up being annoying. Earlier in the story there is something along those same lines with her thinking in regards to his kissing and love-making that, in my opinion, was handled great. It made me chuckle and really endeared me to her character. I did really like her outspokenness and her stubborn, strong-will when it came to Ewan and his macho man mentality though. This is a standard romance, so of course she softens him as the story goes on, but their butting heads over him thinking she will obey him made me laugh. Her bond with the women and children of the clan made for some really funny scenes as well. My favorite part of this book was her bond with Crispen. I would have loved it before, but now as a mom I completely get it and love it that much more. There are some more serious parts in regards to the overarching plot, but overall, this was a fun highland romance and recommend it.

Nothing amazing. But a good way to spend a few hours. Definetly laughed out loud in some sections. Will read the next one in the series.

DNF @60%. Hate both the main characters

Solid 4 stars. I liked this book so much after borrowing it that I purchased it for my personal library. The illegitimate daughter of the king, Mairin possesses prized property that has made her a pawn—and wary of love. Her worst fears are realized when she is rescued from peril only to be forced into marriage by her charismatic and commanding savior, Ewan McCabe. But her attraction to her ruggedly powerful new husband makes her crave his surprisingly tender touch; her body comes alive under his sensual mastery. And as war draws near, Mairin’s strength, spirit, and passion challenge Ewan to conquer his demons—and embrace a love that means more than revenge and land. I absolutely loved this story. Admittedly I've been craving some highland romance for awhile and this delivered. Mairin makes the perfect spitfire heroine without the over the top stupidity that many heroines possess. She also seems practical enough to make rational decisions that in today's world don't translate well, but in that time period would absolutely make sense and be appropriate. Although it seems a bit far-fetched that Mairin & Ewan bonded so quickly, their story still made for excellent reading. Her relationship with Crispin is the absolute best. I found myself cheering for their family through the whole book. My Ratings: 5*****I loved this book, consider it an all time favorite 4**** Thoroughly enjoyed the book and will recommend it 3*** I liked it well enough, 2** Brain Candy - It was okay. Writing mediocre, will keep/re-read if part of a series 1* didn't like/possibly not finished.
