In Case You Missed It

bland, boring, spineless main character, nothing really happens. second chance romance with absolutely no yearning or character development, I felt like I was constantly waiting for something interesting to happen but then it ended, and I didn’t even want to read the epilogue (that’s how you know I’m not invested) there was some comedic one liners but I felt like they were trying too hard to be funny and witty but it came across awkward and disjointed instead.

Now before diving into this review, I just wanted to mention that the sushi scene was down right funny as shit and probably this books saving grace. Plus this scene alone saved me from dropping this book all together since I loved the rekindled romance/reconnection between Ros parents. No fucks were given and honestly I was probably more invested in their story than our lead heroine.
 
Ros failed to impress me and I just wished she pushed her romantic focus to our hot brooding bartender John from the get-go instead of reverting back to something that was doom to fail. There was a definite spark there and unlike her relationship with the 'one that got away', it was far more realistic and he seemed to always have her best interests at heart. But as any predictable romance story goes, she just fell right back into a relationship with ex-boyfriend Patrick *cue the eyeroll* and brushed aside all the issues as to why they originally broke up. Like come on? Do you seriously believe in won't be a key factor for any future problems? That you can just ignore it and pretend nothing ever happened? That's stupidity at its finest people.
 
In short, it was alright despite me wishing there were a few things that could've been changed to better my reading experience but all in all, I'll give this author another go.

I would have preferred it if - spoiler alert - the main character hadn’t spend the entire book with her ex and only gotten together with the real romantic interest at the end. But it was okay, I guess.

Ros leaves her London hometown, friends and boyfriend for a chance to work for a Literary company in DC... only to be back home 3 years later with no plan, a makeshift bedroom in a shed in her parents' backyard, and a mass message sent at a bar one night to let her contacts know she is BACK.

Only that message opens up a past she wasn't planning on coming back to with her ex/love of her life Patrick.
Getting a second chance at love and life with her friends maybe isn't what Ros needs to set up a new life in the present.

I loved Ros and her friends and the way they uplifted her and found the best in her somewhat strange situations, and if I'm being honest, I knew I was team John the minute they were in the mens room together.

In Case You Missed it is a sweet, clean, and funny story about a woman's journey to find herself and let go of the past instead of trying to make it her future.
This was my first book by Lindsey Kelk and I am already excited to find one of her others to read now!
Would highly recommend if youve read and enjoyed Evvie Drake starts over!

Also London is my favorite city of all time and I was so excited to be immersed in that city again!

After moving back to the UK after working in the US for the past three years, thirty-something Ros is eager to get back to the life she left behind. She quickly learns that's not going to be the case. All of her friends have their lives together, her parents are uncomfortably affectionate towards one another, oh, and she's forced to live in a converted leaky shed in the back garden of her childhood home. Her nostalgia is at an all-time high, so when she accidentally texts her ex-boyfriend, Patrick, who broke her heart before she left for the US, she thinks this is her second chance at happiness. The relationship doesn't automatically hold up to her expectations, and Ros can't help but feel like some things may be better off left in the past, especially when she meets a sarcastic bar owner who stirs up emotions she forgot she had.

This was cute but way too predictable. By five chapters in, I was already able to tell exactly how it was going to play out, so that lowered my excitement quite a bit. I did like Ros and felt like she was relatable to everyone who is a little out of sorts and not totally sure which direction to take their life in. That being said, I did actually like her friend group a bit more than her, though. They all were so funny and their banter felt so real. They were the highlight of this for me. Romance wise, I did like her and John over her and Patrick, but to be honest, I didn't feel much chemistry between her and either one. Despite not fully loving this, I'd still recommend it if you're looking for a quick contemporary to pick up.

My past few books that I have read have had some very heavy and scary topics. I needed a light read that could make me relax and possibly laugh at the same time. Thankfully, I found it in In Case You Missed It by Lindsey Kelk.

Ros Reynolds has just recently moved back to London, after 3 years of living in the United States. She's back and living with her parents! She's back with her friends from college! She's back with her ex-boyfriend! Wait...what?

She is stuck in the past. Have you ever been there? Your present isn't working out so well, and you put those graduation goggles on. What are graduation goggles? It's when you're about to graduate to the next phase of your life, you get scared, and you put those goggles on that makes you only see the great things that happened in the past, and you forgot all the bad things. 

Ros has it bad. Her parents have built her a shed in the backyard and moved her into it. Take the hint! Her friends are happy that she is back, but life continued on without her. Lucy was married and pregnant. Sumi was settled down and in bed each night by 10pm. Adrian was still Adrian, but was now looking for a serious relationship. They even added a new member to the friend group - John, who owns the bar they now hung out in. Take the hint! After a not-so-well-thought-out group text, now she is back with her ex-boyfriend Patrick.

I get it. I've been where Ros has been, where I began to look back and wish for when things were easier. Scared of what the future may hold. Wondering what could have been had you not left a relationship. Ignoring the signs that maybe, just maybe, it's time to move on.

And I enjoyed the ride! The friend group was well thought out, and not just an accessory that left you feeling like they were there as a crutch. I really felt the friendship bonds from each of them, and could see their growth, and how they were trying to help Ros catch up. I know the book is set up to make it seem like the relationship with Patrick was the main draw of the book, but I don't agree. I think that the story was more about Ros and her friends as she tries to find her new place in her old world.

And the cherry on top? This book had me laughing. Hard. I found myself having to tell my kids "NOTHING TO SEE HERE!" as I was laughing and they were asking me why. Some things, I just couldn't explain (ahem - tiger head and a fence. You'll know what I mean when you get there!)
