Truly a new experience, the writing was really good.

this is the scariest book i’ve read outside of my lord and savior hanya and i am SO upset that the second book isn’t going to follow the weird alien government shit and is just going to be random people fighting. i just wanted so much more.

This was my first "alien invasion" themed novel and although not what it at first seemed, I loved it. On a day like any other They came. Green, shuffling killers. No one stood a chance. 14 year old Amy happened to be at home that day. Her father was at the market (dead) and her mother was a government researcher (presumed dead). Amy is left alone inside her family home but she is lucky. Her paranoid mother had installed electric fencing around the perimeters of the house. This electric fencing is what saved her life. As the weeks wear on, Amy studies these unknown creatures that the media had proclaimed came from space. She finds out their likes, dislikes, habits and hideouts. Eventually Amy has to leave the safety of her house to scavenge for food and supplies. But she is careful and quiet. And she survives in a world of silence. Then one day while scavenging through a grocery store, Amy finds a toddler who against all odds has survived as well. "Baby" as Amy calls her, is excellent at being quiet. She has excellent survival skills that seem to come naturally. Amy takes her home, and together they become each other's family. For 3 years, Amy and Baby survived the After. Then they are captured by a ship. What they thought were aliens, were in fact their rescuers. They are taken to a place called "New Hope", where humanity is rebuilding itself in a dictatorship fashion. The biggest shock? Amy's mother is the director. She is alive. Amy must learn to conform to this new way of life where everything is done "for the greater good of New Hope". But things are once again not what they seem. New Hope is full of secrets and propaganda. Amy is too curious for her own good. She is in danger of being sent to the "ward". People who are checked into the ward do not return. What an unbelievable debut novel. The characters were well developed, the details of the After well thought out. Action packed from cover to cover. Once you pick this novel up, it's very difficult to put down! I'm happy to see there will be a sequel coming!

I just... wow! This blew me away! I really need In The End now!!
