In the Tall Grass

Now a major motion picture streaming on Netflix! Mile 81 meets “N.” in this novella collaboration between Stephen King and Joe Hill. As USA TODAY said of Stephen King’s Mile 81: “Park and scream. Could there be any better place to set a horror story than an abandoned rest stop?” In the Tall Grass begins with a sister and brother who pull off to the side of the road after hearing a young boy crying for help from beyond the tall grass. Within minutes they are disoriented, in deeper than seems possible, and they’ve lost one another. The boy’s cries are more and more desperate. What follows is a terrifying, entertaining, and masterfully told tale, as only Stephen King and Joe Hill can deliver.

A brother and sister enter a field of tall grass to rescue a boy, but they soon realize they cannot escape and something evil lurks in the grass. I was excited to read this as it was my first story I’ve read written by the father-son duo of Stephen King and Joe Hill. I remember watching the movie adaptation of this story and liking the premise, but thinking that the movie and story itself was just okay. I like the premise of being trapped in a natural setting and being unable to escape because of surreal and/or supernatural forces, but this story delivered a strange execution for what should have been a simple concept. I remember seeing criticisms of this story being anti-abortion propaganda, but I didn’t see that as a theme in this story, though it might be one in the movie adaptation. In the short story, this story felt like the major theme was “don’t try to be a hero”, a simple theme for a simple short horror story. While the short story’s characters weren’t fleshed out much and they weren’t very colourful, they were much more likeable than the characters in the movie adaptation. I like how this story ends in a way that suggests the horror will continue on and attract more and more people into the nightmare. A simple dark ending for a simple dark story. This was interesting, but not as intriguing or engaging as other King stories. This wasn’t bad by any means, it just didn’t connect with me the way that other short horror stories have.

Kinda creepy. Super gross. Love the Kansas setting and the ultra-connected siblings. The ending was too much, though. Did Tabitha read this one? It's hard to believe it got past Tabitha. It needs a woman's perspective.

It was good. I liked it! As always I won't tell you what's happening, you can read the plot in the description. It's a page turner at first, cuz I really wanted to know what's happening and what's gonna happen, and that's what keeps you reading and reading and not wanting to stop. The thing that made it not have more stars is the basically the reason of what happens and the explanation overall that it wasn't something great or something that will shock you or anything. It is what it is and that's that, and you can see it happening and you know towards the end that you don't have to wait for something else to happen or even if it is, you won't care that much. Read it if you like the plot!

4 stars This was a good quick story to read. Wish it had been a bit longer to know what actually made the grass the way it was.

Sempre una garanzia, era sul mio kindle da mesi e l’ho divorato in un paio d’ore, in un mento d’insonnia:
