I got this for free on iBooks as it is the first in this trilogy. I have been really into wanting to read adaptations of Alice in Wonderland and just general fairy retellings. This was definitely an interesting take on this world. Very different, and very unique as in the fact they take Mad and literally mean insane asylum mad. Following serial killers and tracking down other killers, this book had such a fast pace and interesting story. However, some of the time the writing almost felt fanfictiony. A lot of the scenes seemed to fly by, without elaboration or detail. And there was so much traveling in this book, and just moments where you were like, eh I don't think that would have really happened. At one point they traveled to Rome and back to London in a day. It was very unrealistic. The writing wasn't that great either, just being so basic and not very intricate. I almost felt like this was a badly written novel that you have as a guilty pleasure read. I did enjoy it, and do plan on reading the rest of this trilogy because I have questions I want answered, however I wouldn't say this is the best book I have ever read. You can also tell through this novel how much research the author did. There are so many facts and places that were apart of Alice Liddel and Lewis Carroll's life. I thought it was really great how he tied a lot of that into the actual plot line of the novel.

DNF! I finally gave up the idea of ever picking this book up again... I started reading Insanity almost a year ago and was pretty excited to do so. But this book tunred out to be soo disappointing! The format alone makes you not want to read it. There are no page numbers, spelling mistakes and a ridiculous number of chapters for such a short book (I'm talking like one page per chapter short). The story is really confusing because you can't tell who is talking at all and the writng style is just not good. It feels like reading really bad fanfiction by a middle grader, but well.. IT ISN'T WRITTEN BY A KID! No idea how this gets so many positive reviews.

This was a very insane read. It’s a different take on Alice in wonderland, I really enjoyed, interesting characters, somewhat confusing story. However, I’m excited to read the next book...
