There are a lot of things I want to say about this book but the first one is that it is fantastic! I simply could not put the book down once I started. I adored Ada and Corinne and their whole world and I was thrilled that the entire book centred around their friendship which became the driving force for the entire story.

Too often romance and can overtake a really good book and this was one which realised that and decided to go a completely different path. Instead, this is a book about family and friendship and the love for those close to you and some will do anything to protect their loved ones. This isn't a book where a girl falls for boy and together fight the injustice faced by hemopaths together, instead, this is two girls fighting to stay together and protect their friends whilst they're doing it. They want to make sure their family stays protected and they've found themselves going to extraordinary lengths to do so.

I could not recommend this read strongly enough for those finding a truly fantastic standalone fantasy read. Too often the worlds of standalones are underdeveloped and you don't get to see enough of characters but in this book you have it all. I think this is the perfect balance of history and fantasy creating a really interesting read.
