When it comes to the Christian life, what exactly can we expect with regard to personal transformation? In this NSBT volume Gary Millar explores the nature of gospel-shaped change, focusing on "life in the middle"—between the change that is brought about when we become Christians and the final change in which we will be raised with Christ.

The historical section briefly covering past authors’ comments regarding change was helpful. At some moments, it felt like the evidence for arguments made were either hand-waived altogether or only lightly defended. The author’s final presentation of his view on the theology of change came only at the very end, followed by an abrupt argument, implications and conclusion. I understand why the author would want to cover the contextual backgrounds in sections prior to presenting his own argument, but the volume of content was too imbalanced between those contextual sections (majority of the book) and his own argument. Perhaps stating his concluding arguments at the start and then demonstrating along the way what contributes to those arguments could have helped this balance.
