Moon Dance

Moon Dance

J. R. Rain2017
The thrilling first novel in Amazon's #1 bestselling supernatural mystery series. For fans of Sookie Stackhouse, Harry Dresden and Anita Blake, Moon Dance heralds the arrival of America's favorite new vampire detective. Six years ago federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire. Now working the night shift as a private investigator, Samantha is hired by Kingsley Fulcrum to investigate the murder attempt on his life, a horrific scene captured on TV and seen around the country. But as the case unfolds, Samantha discovers Kingsley isn't exactly what he appears to be; after all, there is a reason why he survived five shots to the head.

3.5-3.75??? maybe? the ending pissed me off i’m not gonna lie and knocked it down a bit. but the whodunnit was fun! i loved the little mystery and piecing the clues together and the FMC’s quick wit. i don’t love that the FMC has zero female friends except her sister? and that every man she comes into contact with his described as “hunky”? including her extremely awful estranged husband? and the vampire-hunter actively trying to kill her? but i’m writing that off as a sign of the times and (warning im going to be mean) a man writing a FMC.

I didn’t go into this book with any expectations and, for the most part, I did enjoy the book. It was a quick and engaging read, even if it was very surface level engaging. I did not like Sam’s husband and the way he treated her. I felt that her relationship with Kingsley was random and that it was created to say that she had moved on. Honestly, the most intriguing man in her life is Fang and she hasn’t even met him. Romance aspect aside, I liked the mystery in this book. I like seeing Sam taking charge with her life and doing worthwhile things. I would love more backstory on her and her life but I have a feeling that will occur in later books.
