I really enjoyed this book! Trenton is a smart and talented mechanic living in a city that forbids invention and creativity. When he discovers an unusual tool and meets a mysterious girl named Kallista, whose father was a notorious inventor, he learns that his world is filled with secrets. Kallista's father left behind clues that lead them to build a giant steam-powered dragon that could save their city. The concept of the city of Cove is really interesting - things like art, book, ideas are banned and offenders are sent for retraining. But the city does function seemingly well, like a machine - with different levels and jobs, and I enjoyed getting to explore this world. The story took some unexpected turns and I found it it hard to put down in the last few chapters! It was also a pretty quick read. I hope there's a sequel!

I received an advance reading copy of this book at Book Fair where I got to meet J. Scott Savage. He described it as dragons meet steam punk - and if you like those things, I agree that you'll like this adventure.
