Sweet As Sin

Sweet As Sin

J. T. Geissinger β€” 2015
Twenty-something Kat Reid is loving life as an in-demand Hollywood makeup artist. She has absolutely no interest in rock 'n' roll, but in order to pay the mortgage, she agrees to work on the set of a rock video for the world-famous rockers known as Bad Habit...which brings her face-to-face with Nico Nyx, lead singer of Bad Habit and Adonis in the flesh. However, the fiercely independent Kat isn't impressed by the hard-living, womanizing rock star. But when Nico's model girlfriend shows up to the set drunk and Kat is tapped to replace her as the video's sexy bride, her combustible chemistry with Nico suddenly threatens to consume the set. Nico feels it, too--and becomes determined to win Kat over, body and soul. Yet behind his rock god swagger, Nico hides a dark secret. Can he rock Kat's world forever, or will he just break her heart?

First Impressions
Sweet As Sin is the first book in the "Bad Habits " series by J.T. Geissinger and I have been itching to try out these books for quite some time now. And Romanceopoly really gave me this push to read this book here and actually try it out. Sometimes her contemporary romance can be a hit or miss for me but this one was definitely a hit. I found it beyond entertaining. Its a slow starter though, so be patient with this one. But once you get to about 25% that is when the story really picks up pace. This is a insta love story, so if you don't care for this trope, you probably shouldn't read it lol But I love this trope and I felt like Geissinger really handled it so well. And it had some drama and angst at times, but it seemed to be a blend of inner and outer which I did find refreshing. Not many authors will do both. Its normally just one or the other.

First Line
Had I known my horoscope would be an accurate indicator of just how bizarre and life altering my day would turn out to be, I might never have gotten out of bed in the first place.

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Nico
The Heroine: Kat

Summary
Kat is a makeup artist and she is working on set for a famous rock star band and she takes a offer to work on set for a video for the group, what she doesn't depend on though is to fall head over heels for the head of the band, Nico. Nico is used to getting what he wants, but now Kat will make him work for it. It won't be easy making Kat fall for him. He knows that they have a real connection and is determined to prove to her that what they have is genuine. But Kat has been deeply hurt in the past and never has a man been worthy of her trust, until Nico. Nico isn't going to give her up without a fight. But Nico's life is complicated and he has a enemy, and it will take deep trust for Kat and Nico to find their way into their happy ever after.

What I Loved
Sweet As Sin was a true delight to read. And while it wasn't a perfect book and on occasion had me rolling my eyes, I enjoyed so many parts to this book. I loved the band, we didn't see them a ton, but the moments that we did get to see them was superb in every single way. Nico was beyond sexy. He is this dominant, sexy rock star who likes control and does have a temper at times. But I honestly didn't mind. He was delicious alpha in every way and I couldn't get enough of it. Then we have Kat who is a good blend of strong and sweet. I loved her strength but she is also vulnerable in certain moments and we see that done so well in this one here. I loved how she learns to trust in Nico and learning to let go of the past in order to really have a future with Nico. Nico knows that they are meant to be together, but it takes some with for Kat to go along with it and learn to let go of the pain of the past. I also think her friends held her back in her relationship and wish that they had been more supportive with her relationship with him.

What I Struggled With
I really struggled with the lack of trust that Kat has with Nico. At first it makes complete sense, but she is constantly never trusting him or losing faith or just going with the worst scenario and not learning to let go of her guilt of the past. Also I was not a fan of her friends at all lol They were kinda annoying and I wasn't a fan in how they held her back. And I do think they could have been more supportive in what she had with Nico. Not really excited for their stories to be honest, I wasn't excited to see them have books in this series.

Narration
Fantastic. I especially got a kick out of how the humor was implemented into this one here. And the vibe of the story I felt like was well focused on. I would have liked a duet or dual POV a bit more though for this book.

Overall View
Sweet As Sin was a spicy delectable romance that dug deep into some alpha male goodness, sweet yet fiery heroine who is a goddess and a angsty tale that kept me on the edge from beginning to end!

Steam/Spice Explanations

Simmering cup of tea---soft warm touches and light intimacy
Warmin' by the fire- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments.
Steamin' up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.
Blazing fire to the building-The prime focus is the sex scenes, scorching hot, and could burn one. Less focus on the emotional intimacy to the relationship.

Just like the characters, I fell in love immediately. All the characters and their personalities pulled me in and made me not want to stop until I finished the book.
