He had dark chestnut hair, a beard that wrapped over his strong jaw, and a neck that rivaled Gaston. On more than one occasion, I had teased him in the hall and asked if he could snap a belt with that neck.

“I wish you would laugh like that all the time,” she said, her eyes darting back and forth between mine. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything so beautiful.”

“Ferris wheel,” I said. “I want a long, slow ride to gather my wits.” “So that’s how the princess likes it,” he mocked. “Long and slow. Judging by how you screamed during the other rides, I thought maybe you like it hard and fast.” 

I stared at him, heat spreading from my stomach to between my thighs. 

“Hard and fast has its place. Can’t a girl like both?” I managed.

“I think I like having you smiling all to myself,” she said, her finger running over my beard. “And as far as your ex goes… she’s an idiot for letting get away. But I’m glad she did. Because now—” her hips rocked into my lap, and I squeezed her “—now, you’re mine.”
