This was an okay book.
I liked Jesse. Katie was a different sort of MC and she was okay.
I liked the storyline even if I felt it could’ve been greatly improved with more of Jesse’s pov.
This book was a quick, easy, moderately spicy book with a great soundtrack.
Do I think I’ll continue with the rest of the series? Perhaps, but it’s not at the top of tbr at this moment.
Still, a decent read.

So far, this was my favourite book in the series.


I loved how we finally got some closure on Seth's side of the story of his addiction. I also really loved how he was portrayed in this book, broken but putting himself back together.


Elle wasn't my favourite character in the previous books, particular in book one, but she really redeemed herself here. I liked how the author explored how heartbreak feels and how moving on isn't a linear path for everyone. I liked how Elle was a bit obnoxious and sometimes annoying, because instead of making her character unlikeable (like it did in the previous books) it made her human. We got to see what she was actually thinking in this book and why she struggled so much with her breakup with Jesse.


Elle being a skinny, pretty, blonde girl was a lot less irritating than I anticipated it to be. She wasn't as vain as she came across in the previous books. 


I did think that the book could have been better. As with all the previous installments in this series, I truly think that Diamond has some serious potential, but she keeps leaving the readers with stories that don't feel complete. For example, with this book, I wanted more of an exploration of Elle's development as a musician and how she ended up with Dirty in the first place. I also felt that there wasn't enough grovelling done on the part of the band towards Seth after everything they put him through. Diamond doesn't elicit the same "sated" feeling from me that I get with other books (like the Twisted series by Ana Huang or the Kingmakers series by Sophie Lark).


Seth and Elle were cute together, but Elle didn't show enough of the love that Seth deserved to be shown. I think that a couple more chapters of Elle really describing WHY she loves him and WHAT she loves about him would have made this book a whole lot better.


Overall, not bad, not incredible, but good enough to be rounded up instead of down.

The FMC becomes pregnant, but I didn't mind it because it wasn't the catalyst to the relationship, nor did she try to hide it. Sort of accidental pregnancy, but without the drama.

While this wasn't amazing, particularly because of the last 30% of the book, it was a decent read.

Some of the spice was well-written while other scenes were lacklustre.

Overall, if you're looking for a rockstar romance, this isn't a bad pick by any means.

I had my first experience with Jaine Diamond’s work when I read Dirty Like Me, book one in the Dirty series. This was when I met Maggie and Zane. I had many questions about their relationship. It was evident there was something going on between them, but the author did not elaborate. Therefore, when I discovered there was a prequel to the Dirty series which would provide me with the answers I sought, I jumped at the chance to claim a free copy of this novella.What the story is about.Maggie is the assistant manager for Dirty, the hottest rock band in the country. Zane is the lead singer. Maggie and Zane were attracted to each other, from the moment she started working with the group six years ago. Maggie, however, has rules, which she established for her life, one of which is not to sleep with her co-workers. A rule she has managed not to break in spite of her growing attraction to Zane.Zane would do anything to protect Maggie, especially from her father’s constant degrading comments and his attempts to use her connections to the group to help re-establish his career. His desire to protect her led to him making a proposal that will forever change their lives.The CharactersMaggie and Zane would be good together if only she believed he genuinely cared for her. I understood her doubts where that was concerned because he goes through women as often as he changes his clothing. However, what she did not know was, his love for her went deeper than the friendship they shared. She brought out the best in him.Maggie is a strong, smart and funny heroine. She is fiercely protective of the members of the band whom she considers her family. She takes crap from no one. I loved how she did not allow her father’s terrible treatment to define her. It hurt, but she did not allow it to keep her down. Zane is a fun, caring and lovable character. He too had his own issues, but he rose above them, which is a daily struggle for him. I admired his strength in dealing with these issues, which given the temptations he faces each day would not have been easy.The StoryI enjoyed the banter, which was funny and sexy. I laughed throughout most of the story. I should warn you though the dialogue was loaded with enough dirty talk to make one blush. There were a lot of swear words, which I found distracting. In spite of this, I thought the story was well written. Told from alternate first person POV the story gave insight into the emotional turmoil both characters faced. ConclusionThis being a novella, I only got a brief look into the lives of Zane and Maggie, but now I have a full understanding of the reasons for the tension that exists between them.RecommendationOverall, this was an enjoyable read, and I can’t wait to find out how things will end up for these two. Dirty Like Brody by Jaine Diamond is the second book full-length book in the Dirty series. Although it is a part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. Dirty Like Me book one in the series gave me my first taste of Brody Mason and Jessa Mayes. I found them both intriguing, but Jessa was the one that made me eager to read the second book in the series. What the story is about.Brody Mason is the manager for Dirty, the hottest rock band on the planet. He and the members of the band have been friends since childhood. Brody could have any woman he wants, but only one held the keys to his heart. The same one who left him nursing a broken heart 6 ½ years ago.Six and a half years ago, Jessa Mayas ran away from her life as a songwriter for Dirty to pursue a career in modelling. To the outside world, she appears to have it all, talent, a glamourous life and money. However, the secret that led to her running away is slowly consuming her life. Her brother’s upcoming nuptials has provided her with the opportunity to face her past, face her fears and restore her relationship with the band and the only man she has ever loved.The CharactersJessa has experienced loss from an early age, which had a significant impact on her life. Her inability to deal with the pain from the loss led to her making poor decisions. The worst of which led to her running away and leaving her family, friends and the love of her life behind. Brody’s love and that of her brother were not enough to keep her stable. She internalised her feelings and pushes everyone away. Initially, she intrigued me, but as the story progressed her actions became frustrating and bordered on immature. I kept waiting for her to get over herself and come clean with everyone, most of all Brody.Brody goes above on beyond for those he loves. Forced to grow up before time, due to an abusive childhood, he learned to be responsible and reliable, which made the perfect candidate to be the manager for Dirty. Meeting Jessa and her brother helped made his childhood bearable. The older they got, his feelings for Jessa moved beyond brotherly love, but he kept his feelings under wraps, patiently waiting for the day he could safely tell her how he feels. He is carrying around a lot of pain and anger from Jessa’s betrayal and my heart broke for him watching him trying to come to terms with the hurt. He wants to hate her, but his love for her was stronger than ever. I understood his fears of having his heart trampled once again. Having your heart broken once is not pretty and to have done twice by the same person one may likely not recover.The StoryTold in alternate first person POVs, I was given the opportunity of getting up close and personal with the main characters. The author’s use of memory flashbacks to provide her readers with information on Brody and Jessa’s past was flawlessly done. It was easy to follow and it helped me to understand what made them tick. The dialogue between the characters is realistic, it demonstrates their backgrounds and personalities, and I was pleased that the use of the F word was minimal when compared to the previous books.The prologue was funny and sweet and it made me eager to discover how the remainder of the story would unfold. The pace was great for the first forty percent of the book, but then the story began to lag. The constant push and pull between Jessa and Brody were a recipe for a headache. There were many unresolved issues and the tension between them was palpable. Dealing with these issues sooner would have improved the pacing of the story.I was eager to know why Jess left everything behind 6 ½ years ago. The build up to that was slow and when it was revealed, it was a let-down. I understood her reasons for leaving, but frankly, it did not warrant the drama, which I thought was a bit too much.ConclusionI loved that all issues were resolved and that the characters had their HEA. Dirty by Brody is a story of enduring love. It demonstrates the need for a strong support system when one has to deal with a painful loss. This had the potential to be a four star read, but my issues with the unnecessary drama, Jessa’s behaviour and the areas where the plot rambled needlessly prevented me from rating as such. However, do not let this deter you from trying this book. Despite my issues, I am not averse to continuing the series.Favourite Quote“Time did not heal wounds. I was now thirty years old and I’d been aching for Jessa Mayes since we were kids. By the time I was twenty-one, she’d broken my heart. When I was twenty-four, she ripped it right the fuck out. And what did I do? I slapped a dirty bandage over that shit and left it to rot.”

Jaine Diamond is a new to me author, nevertheless, I decided to give this book a chance as I was intrigued by the blurb.  I had no idea what I was getting myself into, however, I hoped that my journey into uncharted waters would be a worthwhile one.  That being said I must confess that I enjoyed my journey, despite there being aspects of the story which I had an issue with.
 
This story was told from dual POVs. I enjoy stories that are told from the character’s POVs has it helps me to get an angle on their emotions, thoughts, and actions.  It was told mostly from Katie’s POV, which helped me to understand who she was, and the reason for her actions. 
 
She is the kind of character; I think most of us can relate to. She has had her share of heartbreak and emotional turmoil; therefore, it was easy to understand her wariness around Jesse.  For two years she had avoided the dating scene and any form of emotional entanglement. She knew that accepting Jesse’s proposal would wreak havoc on her emotional stability but she was willing to take the risk if meant that she would start living again. The fact that she was willing to take this step was proof of her courage.  What I didn’t like was her constant second-guessing as it relates to Jesse’s feelings towards her.
 
Initially, Jesse came off as an arrogant jerk. However, as the story progressed, I realise that there was more to him than what met the eye. He could be sensitive, especially when it came to those he cared about.  The author touched on his past which provided a little insight into his personality. However, I felt the details provided were limited which led to his character not being fully developed. To be honest, I never felt him the way I was expecting to.
 
I was pulled into the story from the first page. I was eager to see how it would all unfold.   Although, not an original concept I loved it none the less.  What are the chances of barista meeting a hot rock star much less to fall in love with the said rock star?  Katie would discover that life as she knew it would change that fateful day she delivered cherry pies to her best friend’s office. The story was entertaining, however, based on certain events I was expecting more conflicts to arise which would have added to the intensity of the story.
 
There was a lot of sexual tension permeating the pages.  They both wanted each other, but Katie was determined to fight her feelings.  However, her fight only lasted for so long, and when these two finally got together it was explosive.  Sadly, the focus was more on the sexual aspect of their relationship.  I couldn't sense an emotional connection between them.  For most of the book Katie never really had the chance to know Jesse which led to her second guessing his actions towards her. She fell in love with him before she had the chance to get to know him. 
 
Usually, I don’t have a problem with the use of the F word, but when it is used on almost every page and in almost every conversation then I have an issue.  I found it distracting and annoying. 
 
Verdict:
 
This was a good start to the Dirty series, and I can’t wait to see whose story will be next. If you love rock star heroes and stories that are hot, then you will enjoy Dirty Like Me.
