Wow, what a fun read. This is just the kind of book that I would read in one sitting when I was younger and had more time. But alas. I loved Nicki/Charlotte and her determination to protect this family. This book is a really fun read about a young girl who is smart and witty. I highly recommend.

I absolutely loved this book despite the unrealisticness of the "EOG" and the scores being returned only weeks after the students take the test but that's the inner educator coming out in me
Jake Burt creates a flawed yet beautiful character with Charlotte. Her story arc and character growth feel so believable and heartwarming even with some parts of the plot that clearly require the suspension of disbelief. 
Beyond just Charlotte, all the characters, except for Deidre really but she exists just as a comedic foil of sorts, inhabit real space as if you could meet them in real life tomorrow. Who knows? Maybe you will? ;)

This book is quite a trip. 

I'm not sure what I expected, but this was not it. 

This book covers some deep topics--like parental rejection and feeling like you don't belong. So yeah. This book can get a bit deeper than the average middle-grade book. 

This book is a bit more vlog like than I initially anticipated. It did tend to drag. Even the climax didn't have the huge bang I thought it needed. That could just be me (I mean, this is middle-grade and I'm way past that so Idk), but I felt it a bit lacking. 

Also, I wasn't the hugest Nicki fan. She was a bit too spunky for me. She did some things I would never do in my wildest dreams and she kinda fell flat for me. 

There was some cussing (only a few times, but still) and some violence towards the end. They also have some toilet humor in this book, which I was not a fan of (again, I'm way past the target audience lol). This book is otherwise clean. 

So yeah, all in all, a pretty okay book.

When the US Marshals create Project Family, Nicki is trained and chosen to move with a family into the Witness Protection Program (WITSEC) as their daughter. Elena, the family's mother has testified against her brother and they are now all in danger. Nicki becomes Charlotte and joins the Trevor family in North Carolina. What follows are funny, touching events that find Nicki/Charlotte trying to settle into her new life where she must maintain a B- average and remain as unobtrusive as possible, but Nicki has never been good at being unobtrusive.

Greetings From Witness Protection! is a fun coming-of-age story with some mystery, adventure and school hijinks thrown in. Nicki's character is well developed as are the other members of the family along with Nicki's best friend, Brit. Someone like Nicki could not have survived what she has unscathed, so her kleptomania adds depth and reality to her character. Overall, Greetings From Witness Protection! has characters that are easy to identify with and is a wonderful middle grade story.
